Hey guys, My 88 323GT's oil light came on and was lit for under 2 minutes this morning after a cold start. I just let it idle to see if it would go away and it did. It was below freezing here in Minnesota the last few nights. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. It did not come on at all after that today.
I am not sure what to do, or if there is even anything I can do. The oil is new and has JB engine treatment in it. I am a member of the miata.net some of the miatas are known for having loud hydraulic lash adjuster ticks because crap builds up and doesnt let oil flow between it. They have a treatment where they use 3 quarts ATF and 1 quart oil. Would that ruin my turbo??
I know it sounds crazy but they all do it and have never had problems afterwords. They obviously clean out the ATF after but theoretically it should work... I just worry about my turbo having problems. Any thoughts about using this method to clean my internals? Is there anything else I should check or do?
The plan
Run engine to operating temperature
Take the currrent oil out(has under 1k miles)
Put 3 quarts ATF the rest normal motor oil
Run for 20 minutes
Drain ATF put back original oil
Run 20 minutes
Drain and put in clean oil with more JB engine treatment.
I will change the filter both times.
Sound good?
