    95 KL mx6 help

I picked up a 95 mx6 the other day that starts intermittently. The previous owner was told it needed a distributor. I have access to a ford KL distributor, but they appear to be different. Does anyone know if a ford distributor can be made to work in a Mazda KL?

They are the same thing. What looks different? Unless the other one you have is an obd2 Kl distributor. Maybe they are different. I've never seen one.

The caps are different shapes, as well as different firing orders. The harness plugs are also in different locations.

you need a 95-96 distributor! 97 is different from what i know...

it would be cheaper to do the HEI modification where you remove the primary coil from the distributor and bypass it using a GM ignition module.

sounds like you have an obd2 distributor. they most likely changed after 96 like most other cars did. you need a 92-95 obd1 distributor.

93/94 distributors are different fyi, thats why i suggested the 95/96 since 97 is ODB2...

My mx6 is a 95. I used a BRAND NEW distributor for a 95 Probe GT, and can't get any spark out of it. I put the old distributor back in, and it sparks sometimes just like before. Obviously, the 2 distributors aren't interchangeable. I've tried every combination of firing orders I can think of as well and still nothng. Let's hope I can get my money back on this distributor.

Nevermind, I think I figured it out. From what it looks like, the distributor the parts store gave me is for a 93-94. My car is a 95, which is why this doesn't work. Looks like I need to find a parts store that can order a 95 dizzy for a reasonable price.

Yeah, they took it back. They can order me the right one for ~$360. Now I'm looking for a working used disty.

hope on probetalk. people always are selling them there.

and there is zero difference between a probe disty, or a mx6 or 626 disty. like has already been said, the only thing that changed, is what year it is for. so as long as its for your year, it will work no matter what vehicle its off of.

Started the HEI mod tonight. I got the disty modded aside from drilling the hole in the cap. I'm taking several detailed pics, hopefully I can get a decent how-to together for the 95-96.
