    The Green Thing....

Ok, so I have a pot of coffee ready, and I know this is gonna take a while.....

    It all started last summer,

As you can obviously tell, it's been sitting for a while....

The original powerplant (The one I got my 'new' head from after I snapped a cam... Keep reading...err... looking!)

Big plans.... for a car that doesn't even run yet!!

    The Nitty gritty....

    Wheeled into the shop -

    This is liquid motivation!!

Actually still has the owners manual and all original floormats!!! I'm the second owner btw... And I'm willing to bet, by the end of this pictorial, I would have done more in a year, than this woman did in 20!!

The easiest way I've found to remove an engine is to FIRST remove the hood....

And cut a bolt in the process.....

Remove the intake, Radiator, Fan, and all things you don't want damaged!

BE SURE TO SUPPORT THE VEHICLE PROPERLY ON JACK STANDS RATED FOR AT LEAST DOUBLE THE WEIGHT OF YOUR CAR!!!

We did this the hard way - Removing the Axle nut and pulling the hub off the axle and sliding the engine out that way.... There are much easier methods!!!

Should you have to remove the Disty for any reason, (which for an engine removal you shouldn't btw) Make sure to make a score mark so you can re-align it.

Old Engine, the donor engine from which all my parts for the new engine came from!

    Almost ready to yank!

Drivers side Engine/Trans mounts that need to be undone -

Passengers side Engine mount that needs to be taken apart -

    And she's out!!

      Removed... Now what?

Engine's out... Now where to go??

Bout to disconnect the trans from the engine...

This was easier to do when I removed the engine and trans as a unit... Just an FYI...

At this point we decided to use the spare engine, Only problem it had was the teeth on the T-belt on the oil pump gear had stripped off...
He got the Auto Trans, I got the Auto engine with the 4 wire TPS already installed and positioned....

The next day: Piddlefart around and drink more beer!

      Oh look... Missing teeth!

      It's an otherwise clean engine!

Fishing for part of the plugwire that decided to stay in the hole.....

20 min in and I twist off a waterpump pulley bolt..... fml...

Oh yeah, and a VC bolt.... I'm a genius, It doesn't require tard strength to tighten those up, for the record!

For being an Illinois car, it doesn't have a lot of body rust!

My bud Greg (who knows absolutely NOTHING about engines) posing next to what, to him, would be a big pile of scrap metal.

Liquid Nails filled mounts.... Bad idea, BUY THE DAMNED REAL THING OR USE POLYURETHANE!!!

      Ready to go back in....

you look like Streetbike Tommy, and I've never seen a BP cylinder head that looked that haggard... no wonder a cam broke.

                        That head is SCARY.

When you have time, i'd also suggest going back and doing the wiring for your TPS properly, too.

Butt connectors have no place in a main wiring harness. May be a matter of opinion depending on who you're talking to, but.... well.

Looks like a lot of work, otherwise. Keep it up.
