Penetrating oil on the cheap. think your can is the best stuff ever? think again

i bring you this thread after i broke a torque wrench and a 1/2" breaker bar, rounding off the 32mm hub nut with a dewalt impact wrench at 320 pounds of torque. i tried hammering a notch in the nut to force it loose with a screwdriver and sledge. i tried freezing it. it was as seized as seized can be. I sledged a 30mm impact socket onto the 32mm hub nut remains, and STILL couldn't get it loose. i tried PB blaster. i tried liquid wrench. i tried Kroil. 5 days i've been at this goddamned bolt.

and guess what loosened it right the hell up (15 minute soak)?
a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone.
haters gunna hate, but every commercial product failed 100% and miserably.

pics of slaughtered bolt to come.
Guess who's back, back again. cable's back.. tell a friend.

Posted not on april 1 eh? I may try this next time I encounter a stuck fastener.
'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

i think i read this article a while back and my main hang up was the convenience of a can of PB Blaster vs. having to purchase 2 separate products, then mix them in an applicator that is as convenient to store and use as a spray can. what do you all use to apply the ATF/acetone?

            Milwaukee SureShot.

The #1 alternative to aerosol cans. 100% made in the USA. Reusable, refillable, ecofriendly.

hell, even if you don't use the acetone/atf mix, you can get a gallon jug of penetrant of your choice (uhh huh huh.. i said penetrant), pour it in, charge it, and done. costs a few bucks, but over the years, how many aerosol cans do you go through? I go through at least a case of brake cleaner a year. probably 2-3 cans of PB-blaster...

I've been meaning to get a couple of those for a long time, but never have got around to it.

              hehe. he said penetrant

but i like using the acetone mix cuz it's good for penetrating seized nuts.

I hear Viagra can do this as well, lol!

Seriously though, I'll have to try out the 50/50 mix next time. We almost stripped the axle nut last week too. Liquid wrench usually works great, but this nut wouldn't budge.
