    Cody004's 95 EGT-KLDE Swap Worklog

I guess it's time to start a worklog of my own for this project. I've been whoring pics in other peoples logs for long enough...

Not going into too much detail of this cars past or any of my other projects. This is the worklog for the KLDE swap. I am doing this on a semi-budget, so there has been, and will still be more, bargain hunting. This will be a street car, that will be spending a lot of time on closed courses... Strip, roadcourse, hopefully auto-x (probably in some stupid tough class, haven't checked into what class that may be yet) Maybe the occasional rally-x.

Victim: 95 Bright Calypso Green EGT

Mods being kept from old setup:
    Update later

    Project parts:
$700 Mx3 parts car- $300 (have sold quite a bit, and kept the leathers for the wagon!)
Low mile Probe KLDE- $80 JY
    Ebay Headers- $108 New
    Corksport Exhaust- $30 JY
    ZX2 S/R Borla muffler- $5 JY
Misc Stainless Exhaust Stuff to button it up- $45
Stg 2 Clutchmasters 6 puck clutch- $100 lightly used
    K8 Flywheel- MX3
    5speed MX3 g-box- MX3
Corksport Braided stainless Clutch line- $12 used
    Welded F&R Mounts- (from mx3, I welded)
Filled side mounts- price of window weld (need to do)
    B&M Shifter- $3 JY
Weighted 4wd shift knob- $free (had in stash)
    MX3 width arms- MX3
    MX3 depowered rack- MX3
    K8 ECU, VAM etc...- MX3
Welded Shift Stabilizer bar, and (not welded) shift linkage selector rod - MX3
    Passenger Mount bracket- MX3
Ported K8 Intake mani - MX3 (I already ported) going to give this a try, if not I have a milli mani on the way too...
    Phenolic spacers- $free
Full front to back MX3 wiring- MX3
MX3 Radiator and fans- MX3 (cutting core support to fit) (will document)
    MX3 dash/cluster/column- Where else?
EGT 5speed Pedal-box - had from old green GT
    Black cloth MX3 Recaro's - Had for over 3 years, so... $free?
    Corksport Braided brake lines- $Free
    Pads undecided- $???
    Newish Rotors- MX3
Enkei Aeronautics w/ decent tires- $170 JY
H&R Coilovers- (New GR2's with perches cut- $200. Dropzone sleeves- had. H&R 8" 250# F, 200# R Springs- had) (need/want camber plates and helper springs)
FE3-323 Spherical LCA bushings (round 2) -$350ish? (they're worth it!)

    Total spent to date: $1400

    Other modifications being done:

Full interior gut, except dash/cluster. No hvac, nothing plastic besides lower dash and shifter console. Cardboard door panels covered in cloth (NHRA says I mush have "door panels" w/o a cage I think) Probe manual belts (already there) Corksport Rear Tower bar, and maybe a harness bar or floor bar for stiffness. Nothing else interior...

Engine bay will be as stripped and tucked as possible. Will probably have orange dripping paint around fender aprons/strut towers and firewall (1 solid line around top "line" of the engine compartment, dripping unevenly down from there) Shaved and "Brushed" (not quite polished) VCs and IM. Possibly fabricate an air intake. Probably fabricate some strut tower to firewall braces of some sort. Corksport Front tower bar if it clears the spaced K8 Intake manifold or the doublespaced (for square to oval portmatch) Milli manifold.

Will be rolling/pulling the arches to hopefully make space for 225's in the future.

I also am going to attempt an altinator relocation, to the spot for the P/S. I want to do this because I want to eliminate 1 belt since there will be no a/c or p/s. alt is on a/c belt, and wp is on p/s belt, so move a/c to wp belt= 1 belt and no a/c or p/s. I will figure out what alt and alt pulley this requires in the next few weeks and hopefully build brackets to make it happen.

Hopefully most of this is done by the 2nd week of May. (5 weeks or so out)

Input, criticism, support, are all welcome, and encouraged. It's what makes us family, and helps others learn. I hope to document some of the finer details of this build to share with others. SO in hopes of keeping this thread clean and organized, please no bickering or non-fact's.

    Thanks!
    -Cody

        Equipment:

Auto-Dimming Hobart Welding Hood and Lincoln Electric Wire-feed MIG

If you are ever cutting Tubing, you need one of these:

Will add more equipment once it's been photographed.

you should grab the iceman intake, ecu, shift knob, shift boot, badge on the back, and seat skins. you could make a bunch of profit on that over at teamzx2.

Intake, knob, and badge were already gone. Got the ECU, muffler, and short shifter. Boot is still there, I'll grab it, and seats were swapped for stock zx2 at some point. Thinking of getting the rear disk stuff, and maybe some of the poly bushings, but then again, I don't need any of that.

Thanks Jack! I am too! Every day after work, I do something with this project, even if it's minor. I work 7 days a week, so I gotta get it done when I can. I'm pretty burnt out from work right now, so I think I am going to take a week off after Easter, and do the majority of it then. Hopefully the last 3 days of that week off can be spent doing a detailed shakedown of the car, and fixing any issues that are found. Then once I Finalize my pending home purchase, and move, I will daily drive this car while I tear the wagon down and start the real project!

Well, I was concerned that My milli mani wasn't going to come in, so I started making budget backup plans. I have searched but found nothing on anyone ever using it, so I figured I'd try and at least figure out how well it works. Then maybe someone in the future can learn from my mistake, or maybe it'll become the new trend in shifting the powerband to the left! Who knows, it's really a shot in the dark... Using the resources I had at the time.
