    widest tire width for a first gen???

    im looking to find out what the widest tire width i can run .. still giving me the ability to turn without rubbing on suspension.. for placement under a first gen (323 if that matters) no wheel spacers just bone stock. i've heard we can run with 17X7's but what tire width would correspond best with that?
    205/215/225/225+???

    Out of curiosity, why do you want the widest possible tire? From a performance point of view, I believe I once heard that there is such a thing as 'too' wide.

      if you're going to use larger wheels, which will usually have a different backspace(and definately offset), then why do you say "no spacers". It's basically the same thing.

      anyway....answer is, it depends. a narrow 225 mounted on a narrow wheel with no camber and stock ride height will fit fine. a 225 Falken, on a 8" wheel, with 1.5 degrees of negative camber, with the stock size struts w/ perches, and lowered 2"....then no, you'll rub a lot.

      what offset? what tire? what sidewall?

      you'll be pretty safe with 205 and 215 low profile 17s....depending on how much you're lowered and what your alignment is. Offset will be important.

      fwiw, performance wise, 205/50/15 is your friend.

        well im riding on MX3 H&R springs... so roughly a lowering of 1.5 front 1.3 rear
        i was thinking about low profile 17x7's for everyday run around. not strictly performance but not purely looks either... i have no clue what a good performance tire i could put on it would be. i've heard all over the board that falken's are good other than that im in the dark. i'll be runnign with the ZX2 tokico's fro struts so yeah roughly stock perches.

        as for offset what would be a reccommended size?
        camber... well i haven't researched much into all of the camber/caster/toe dynamics of suspension yet. so im clueless.

          if you get 15s, get a 205/50/15;
          16s = 205 40 or 45/16, but the rears might rub
          17s = 205/40/17, rears might rub

            Hey Jesse, what do you think of 195/50 15 ..
            ------------

            Wouldn't it be better to try a different offset rim, such as a +35 offset 15x7 wheel. with whatever tire.
            I was figureing that this would bring the wheel out a little bit more and maybe improve handleing a bit, due to a slightly wider stance.
            what do you think?

              i think that unless you have some camber, you'll need to roll the front fenders with a +35 and any sort of wide 205.

              195s aren't as good as 205s, and the options are limited on what you can get. The slight gearing advantage isn't worth it, IMO.

                i run 225/45's in the rear with it lowered 3", no spacers, and no negative camber with no problems at all.

                          Those sure look a lot smaller than 225/45-17s.

                            i ran 205/45/16s and over bumps the rears would rub. i'm running 205/50/15 Falken Azenis tires and they don't rub even if i have 5 people in the car.
