    Lockies GTR Familia

Thought it was about time I made a project topic up on this site. Well basically, I brought myself a 1992 Mazda Familia GT-R back in November of last year. The only modifactions to the car was an after market blow off valve, rims and some Dobi lowering springs. So it was in pretty original condition. Since then I've fixed/replaced a few things being:

    - Broken transfer case bearing, gearbox bearings and 2nd gear&pinion shaft
    - Four brand new tyres
    - New radiator and hoses
    - Oil service

Recently just this week, I've also finally had a full 2.5" exhaust system all the way through, along with a custom steam tube exhaust manifold, Tial 38mm external wastegate, K&N induction and got myself a boost tap hooked up for some 16psi fun :D. Here's some pictures [sorry about the **** quality of the manifold, I don't have a camera anymore as the previous pictures were taken some time ago]

From the old broken radiator, tried covering the cracks up but didn't work lol:

looks nice! after you installed the turbo manifold, did you re-use the vj23 turbo? Or did you upgrade?

Just re-used it. I'm wanting to build a second motor, and use a Garret TO4E or something similar.

As I've only got one car to get around in. So I'll build the second motor while the GT-R is on the road still

Ahh, understood. T04E should be a nice upgrade, plus it can be rebuilt lol, odd story with the vj23 and that.

Second engine sounds like a good plan, I have one in pieces at the moment lol. What would be your plans? upgrade the rods/pistons?

Nice ride. I would have opted for a 3in exhaust as the 2.5in is restrictive, splly for the BB turbo.
Anyone knows what 9K rpm feels like? I do

The second engine will be built from the ground up with new internals etc.

Um, I'll eventually go 3". But 2.5" is by far, a lot better then the factory one!

Got some more pictures, sorry for the quality though as they're taken from my phone. It's the best I've got at the moment.

gtr is an awesome car to drive. You can do everything with it; drag, lapping, solo, ice racing and even rally...in my case I like to take mine in pieces in the garage

                Nice ride!!

                  Yours isn't bad either

I was going to spend some money to do more external work to the current motor in the car. But considering I'm building a second engine, I've decidied to just leave it as is to put the money towards that motor.

Um, I asked the following question in a topic I made a while back, but can't find it. So just wondering the answer to this again:

With an N/A head out of a BH Familia, seeing as I want to use a solid lifter setup, you can fit the solid lifter setup from the MX5 head so long as that BP head out of the BH Familia's are the facelift [BP2] ones, correct? And also so long as the solid lifter setup is facelift too I think?

Someone told me on here a while back the answer. But I've forgotton.

You just need solid lifters and solid cams, then you can run it in the N/A head. Don't forget to adjust the shims tho lol

What if you were to use aftermarket cams? Would there be a way to fit them in?

Um, and what about like retainers and stuff? Or just the shims? Is there nothing else apart from what you said?

You can? But I want to use a solid lifter setup. Not a hydraulic lifter setup

you can use any BP mazda's head and convert it with solid lifters. The solid bucket has the same diameter as an hydraulic one. Though, you will have to mess with the adjustment of each one. Look at my build thread, between page 6 and 8, I did it last year and I posted pictures with details.
