    86 BF 323 4wd wheel bearings

hi, i have a few questions about wheel bearings for my 323.
1 has anyone got the bearing number for the wheel bearings?
2 are the front and rears the same?
3 shall i just use the spacers that came out of the old bearing when replacing them??
4 what make of bearing is good?? genuine mazda will be very expensive,, so how about timkin ect??

    thanks guys

Don't have the part #'s handy.
Fronts and rears are the same.
Reuse the spacers and make certain you don't get em mixed up.
OEM, don't take a chance on having to replace em any sooner than you have to. Chinese/Mexican made ones have a way of falling apart fast...

Maybe, at least they should be US made... at least they were last time I did this job on a gtx. I used them last change (years ago) I did cuz I couldn't get oem.

Timkens are all I have ever used and they hold up very well if they are installed properly. Set 11's are the ones you want.

Just did wheel bearings on my GTX, using all the same spacers, etc. New bearings are a little tight, and when I got it home, the wheels where a bit worm, almost hot, but not hot enough you couldnt touch them. Is this a normal occurance for new bearings as they seat in, or did I screw something up?

No that does not sound good. They should roll freely.

Well, when I got my head out of my ass, I figured the heat would be from the Brakes. Only makes sense.

Right now, the right front wheel spins pretty freely for having an axle in it, but the other side is still just a hair tight in comparison. Car rolls with no issues, I can easily push it back and forth, etc.

If its a preload issue, does anyone know where to find all the different spacers? Mazda says they no longer have them (then again, Im slightly hesitant to believe that), and no outside sources say they are available.

Don't mess with spacers. If they roll, they roll. Put a lot of torque on them, the book says something silly about running them to "just tight" then backing them off, this ruins them quick. If the nut is down pretty good and they roll, hope for the best and run with it.

lol, sorry Jay, Im lost in that. Are you think 2wd or 4wd? This is also the fronts im dealing with. Factory BF Hubs/knuckles. Book specifies different spacers and to put larger spacers in until the hub spins with little resistance. Is this what your talking about?

Right now it still feels a little tight, but I may just roll with it (excuse the pun) if they are not going to give me issues. Maybe put a few 100 miles on em and see how they do, maybe just need to wear in.

Please clarify Jay, I respect your knowledge here.

Sorry. What i meant was.. Dont mess with trying to replace the orig. spacers. Unless they're totally chewed up, you're asking for trouble changing them. "specially since, as you've found, that replacement spacers are made of unobtanium. Might be better off getting a set of BG knuckles and huibs. The updated bearing is a donut the size of your fist and will never, ever break.
