Do the VR4 swap up front and put porterfields on it.

'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

You guys have any info on the swap? I found a thread or two about it but they aren't very informative. any info would be incredibly helpful

You *need* to go join the yahoogroups gtx list if you have a gtx and want it to live...and all the info on this swap is there too. Might be kinda tough to dig up but it's all there.

the old homestead site with all the details is gone. The yahoo groups site has the basics.

            1. its NOT the VR4 swap. Its the Galant Swap. the VR4 rotors are the largest option and the middle, I think 356 or 366mm rotor for the galant is the right one. the 376mm or which ever is the largest will not work.

            2. Yes the escort pads/caliper will ride a lil high, meaning you won't have total pad coverage on the rotor... no biggie...

            3. after install the pedal will feel "weird" not bad, not good... just weird, the 929 automatic non-abs booster/MC will cure it completely.

            4. wheel studs. This is the one I fought on both my cars for a long time.you need a lil more length for the offset of the front mounted rotor but do not make the mistake of buying studs with too much unthreaded shoulder on them. Unforturnately, I did both my cars 3+ years ago and lost my build log in a hard drive crash. So I just know that the mazda truck or rx7 options don't work. Just need a decent digital caliper and a good parts store to let you dig.

I am totally going off memory here. so the yahoo group will get you to the exact combo.

            Totally worth the effort.

Just after it shut down, I grabbed a couple cached pages from mazda323performance.com, including the galant brake upgrade page (with info taken from the homestead page) - I could post it if you want.

I had a place in California make these rotors (front and rear) for me back in 2008 unfortunately they are no longer in business. The rotors work well and I mated them to Axxis pads and stainless steel brake lines that I bought from Corksport when they sold BF chassis parts (still crying about that they don't!).

I am happy with the performance of the set-up but down the road, I will probably get a wild hair and upgrade further to a Wilwood aluminum 4 piston set-up and custom made hub adapter tohang the calipers.

I hope that helps - Yasin
