        It was a hell of a car in its day. Fiberglass body, small supercharged V8, 4 speed stick, disc brakes all around. A "pony car" 2 years before the Mustang. For a while, a modified Avanti held a production-class speed record at Bonneville. And it's actually really pretty in person, IMO.
        After Studebaker went tits-up in '64, somebody bought the body molds and built the "Avanti II" on a shortened Chevy chassis (Malibu, I think) but with a SB 350 and a Hydramatic.

          I've always like how the Avanti looked. If I could afford to have one........
