project "retrofit"...the story of an 88 GTX restoration

So I just picked up this beautiful 88 GTX. I "saved" it from a guy who was going to turn it into a FWD drag car with 20" DUBZZZ. It has possibly the cleanest chassis I've ever seen in the North East. It's all stock minus the awful window tint, a "kicking stereo", a super annoying alarm system, and some craptastic HIDs. So here she is when i first picked her up:

She ran fairly rough, idled high, had a nasty hesitation cruising, and a tiny bit of wobble in the front pulley. Other than that, and a few little problems here and there, she is in fairly good shape.

So the point of this build is to pack it full of as many modern luxuries as possible without drastically altering the function or form of the car.

    Projects completed so far:
    - K-night coilovers installed
    - Installed a brand new ignition system complete with a full dizzy rebuild.
    - new back brakes
    - new fuel filter
    - new RX7 fuel pump
    - started installing new bushings
    - window tint and stickers removed
    - speedometer fixed with new gear and cables
    - new timing belt/waterpump/thermostat/ fix pulley wobble
    - finish bushings

    projects yet to complete:

    - new CV boots all around
    - lots of other stuff

so here's the first of many planned goodies...A custom, stealthy PLX gauge installation.

you probably can see where this is going...

      gauge dismantled...

all assembled..not sure why it looks like its all funky at the bottom, but it looks fine in real life, lol.

dash modified with cable fished thru...

      finished...

thanks. Looks like it'll work pretty good...except when the turn signal lever is in the down position, lol.

Yeah I had a boost gauge in the same spot on my bg, the headlight arm got in the way too much.

I wanna see that gauge lit up. Looks interesting

I need to get the wideband bung welded in first.

So good news is my pulley wobble is not a worn crank keyway.

I have a new bolt and key on order, so I should have it all back together by this weekend.

Also, while I was doing the timing belt I decided to do the waterpump, thermostat, and backflush the system. While I wad at that I figured u should make new radiator mounts since mine were completely broken.

So I started by removing the old rubber from the mounts.

And machined new ones from some polyurethane I had kicking around.
