Mitsubishi Evolution Lancer brake master cylinder swap.

Have anyone used the brake master cylinder of evo on the cars instead of the Mazda 929? It is bigger than than the 929 1" bore m/c

My friend had install the evo 9 m/c on his 91 Mit Colt & gave me the 7/8 m/c that was on it & i installed on my BF, it bolted up directly to my car brake boosters without any mods required.

So I am thinking that if the Colt 7/8 bolts directly to the Mazda brake booster, then the evo m/c will bolt up easily. Only issue that I saw is that the brake line ports are in different location.

But that's nothing that these can't fix in whatever combo of your liking.

    180 Degree Tubing Bender

    Double Flaring Tool Kit

    Brake Line Extensions

    Brake Line Fitting Assortment

    Steel Brake Line Tubing Kit

All these items are reasonably priced on amazon.com.

I got the used Evo 8 brake m/c in the mail today. Does this look like viable candidate for the hard to come 1" bore 929 m/c? For the record the Evo 8 brake m/c bolts directly to Mazda 323 brake booster.

Put it on and let us know how it works...looks like you will have to bend some brake lines to hook it up.

I can't remember off the top of my head where the stock lines are at but this shouldn't be too difficult.

My car is currently in the shop for some body work & a spray job, so my evo 8 brake master cylinder swap is on pause for now. I'm also having a warm time acquiring the 95 Protege brake booster that's used with 929 brake master cylinder swap, so I'm now contemplating the acquisition of the evo brake booster off ebay as well.

When this stage is completed then I'll jump back on the evo m/c swap.

John J ReeD, look like you'll be doing this swap before I'm able to start.

Not To Steal Your thunder mazkam, but here its is!

NOTE: the evo8 uses a m10 x 1.0 japanese bubble flare... so you will need either the stock evo8 bubble flare nuts or a set of M10 x 1.0 Bubble Flare Nuts

                              ITEMS REQUIRED:
4x 3/16 Inverted Flare Brake Line Nut
2x 3/16 Inverted Flare Brake Line Union
                              1x 12-30" 3/16 Brake Line
1x Brake line bender and Flaring tool
about a half dozen m10? washers (shims)
                              brake fluid.....ALOT...
someone with a well rested leg
                              1-5x hours of time !

                              side by side

                              TOOLS !

Remove Battery, the 2 10mm brake lines on the Master cylinder & the 2x 13mm nuts and washers holding the master cyl on, and take it off

                              Volia!

Now take the evo master cylinder and slide it on the studs on the booster and (UH OH! you can feel it engaging about 1/4" before its flush) , my adjuster is seized on the master cylinder side so i used washers to shim it so there is no freeplay and it sitting against the end of the plunger in the EVO master

i cut 2x 12" 3/16 bubble flare brake lines, cut one bubble off and removed both flare nuts, then put the EVO flare nuts on one end and kinda got a plan on where i wanted to cut the factory lines and how i wanted to run the new lines

                              AND HERE WE ARE!

Bleed, bleed and bleed some more, i caution you, the brake pedal is harder and wayyy further up than you will be used to , tomorrow im going to adjust the pedal some to hopefully have some free travel before engagement, right now im at less than 1" before it begins engagement. but totally worth it!!!!!

only thing i need now is a pigtail for the brake fluid level switch and it will be all done.

hope this helps anyone reading !
