Nopi Trip And Tail Of The Dragon

being the organizing type that I am I would like to start a new thread regarding our annual trip to NOPI in Atlanta this year in September.

This is not the official NOPI thread, those will still follow. I would like to just post a few links and give you guys a few ideas on what we could and should do when we drive up. Vlad, me, joe, since we are nopi veterans, will present the trip to everybody at the upcoming official meet and will collect your input and ideas during the next couple of months, after which we will start regestering for the show, reserving hotels and anything else that will need to be done.

I would like to present to you guys, Blue Ridge Parkway. The road is called tail of the dragon for a reason, 318 curves in less than 11 miles. This should be a blast to drive in our protege's.

btw, fyi, hopefully where not going to have any car versus truck problems. it seems like there is a lot of problems with people understanding the, ahem, drivability of this road. (see below) anyway, im sure we'll figure something out. i dont know how aggressivley you think we should take the road. but we'll come up with something, right?

yes, i am. i was hoping that when people mention that road they will not only think of miatas but also the proteges after we conquer it.

does that mean you are in for the trip? i dfntly aggree with your statements above. the idea is to have fun there and experience something (curves) that we only dream of down here in south florida. but safety of course is nomber one. i imagine we would be driving the posted speed limit (or "slightly" FASTER) with a good deal of distance between the cars.

last year we left for nopi early friday morning. if people are interested in this then we need to leave early thursday morning. we drive up through atlanta on i75 to knoxville where we will spend the night. friday we have pretty much all day to go back and forth a few times as well make our way back down to atlanta with enough time to wash our cars for the nopi show on saturday. since there is nothing there to do on sunday, we can start making our way back home sunday morning.

comments? ideas? suggestions?

i realize its way to early for this but last year we started planning early and i think everything worked out. plus the earlier we start there is a better chance that everyone will be on the same page, i.e. we will be able to come to conclusion about what to do on our 3rd annnual out-of-state trip.

nopi is early this year.
its going to be september 18 and 19th which is saturday and sunday of course. the registration is not yet open however.

you will need to get off friday, saturday and sunday for sure.
it is still up in the air and definitely too early to tell how many people will go and if people will be interested in doing the tail of the dragon.
if you want to do the dragon than you will also need thursday off. but this depends on the interest from the club or those that will be going.

I wouldn't mind hitting the dragon with you guys if you decide to go. It isn't but about an hour and a half from my house. All of the local guys around here go out there every weekend.

I too would love to go drive up there boosted, but even if i am not.... count me & Veezie in for the drive BEFORE NOPI weekend for this year.....

how much are you guys willing to spend on the hotel? there will be probably 2 people per room but in case of couples its up to them if they want to share 1 bed and then leave another bed to another couple or club members. so let me know what the maximum you want to spend and if that amount when sharing the room or for yourself.
