Driving. The loose nut behind the wheel is the most important part of any racer. A car can be made to go fast, but if the driver can't push it to it's limits, then it' can be pointless. Don't worry about dumping money into the car yet. Learn to control your car the way it is, on street tires. When you feel comfortable with then take it a step further.

As far as modifications go, R-compound tires, suspension components, etc etc. It could also depend on the classification goes.

Absolutely nothing. do NOT modify the car. The car is fine.

start going to as many events as possible.

What if it's too late already. I am really considering going to a few events this summer, but as far as I know I'll be placed in STS because of all my mods. I know that how I do doesn't matter as this will be my first time.......but I just don't want to make a fool of myslef that's all.

no, but if you're starting from a blank slate, then don't modify.

I fell into the same thing as most of you. I had basic bolt-ons on the car when I started. STS is where I started. It worked out, but only because luckily for me, nothing put me into a higher class.

Sign up for a novice school and do as many events as possible. What mods do you have done already? Focus on being smooth with your inputs, ask for help and advice at the events and be patient, not everyone is fast out of the box...I wasn't and now I do quite well here....good luck and welcome to the sport.

As stated, seat time is the key. Nothing says that you have to participate in just events that are local to you. Do as Jesse and I do and travel to other regions. It's certainly worth the drive. I'm willing to bet there's at least one other region within a 1.5 hour drive from you. practice practice practice.
