Sorry, I was a little frustrated having to drive home with no shifter just bare stripped threads, its a thick metal adapter on top of the shifter, it seems like its held on with some kind of rubberized glue or something because it'll spin alittle but not much and just snaps backLast edited by Cory Lydens; 11-15-2013, 08:39 AM.

That is definitely a vibration dampener. It's probably a probe or newer Protege shifter. The one in my BD has the same. If you get it off and thread it, you can use a Mitsubishi eclipse or RX-7 knob. I put a probe shifter in my escort and pulled the top off it and used an rx-7 shifter!1991 Mazda 323 Base (Gretchen)-Build Thread
