Not to be picky but.. one fuzzy pic and no co text.. how bout where it is and what it's attached to and stuff like that.

Looks like it's on the top of the shifter. Is it metal or plastic?

Sorry, I was a little frustrated having to drive home with no shifter just bare stripped threads, its a thick metal adapter on top of the shifter, it seems like its held on with some kind of rubberized glue or something because it'll spin alittle but not much and just snaps back

If the adhesive gives at all, put some heat to it and you will be able to take it all the way off.

            It's just a vabration damper.

There is not enough vibration coming through that shifter to need a dampener.

Or the remnants of a weighted shift knob.

There's really no need to identify it. He just wants it gone.

I realize he asked what it is and I'm not berating anyone for guessing. I'm just pointing out that it's irrelevant especially since no one knows for certain. There's really only one thing that matters. How does it come off?

I was curious at what it was, but I'll try to get another bottle for my torch tomorrow

That is definitely a vibration dampener. It's probably a probe or newer Protege shifter. The one in my BD has the same. If you get it off and thread it, you can use a Mitsubishi eclipse or RX-7 knob. I put a probe shifter in my escort and pulled the top off it and used an rx-7 shifter!
