Will parts from Early gen Probe fit on Z5 Motor?

Hey Guys, I know some kat who has the Z5 locally and he told me the Z5 from da protege is the same motor in an early gen Probe. Who's ever heard of that? He siad he even has a pair of adjustable cam gears from the probe on his motor now. We going up to Darlington, SC on wednesday and we going to run. But I just wanted to know if anyone has heard of that before...

I do not know what he is talking about. I do not know if ealry Probes had Z5 or not, but I would more likely to assume that they had BP motor. As for the adustable cam gears is definately not any news to me. Corksprort had them for years. But with Z5 engine, you can only adjust the powerband, i.e. more acceleration or top speed. In either case, you won't see much improvement. No one has ever done it. However, bubbashane just bought them, so we will have to wait and see what he has to say.

Early Probe's had the same 4 cyl N/A and turbo 2.2 that was in the 626 and MX6 from 88-92. newer one's had the v6 from the 626,MX6. the 3.0 v6 in the early one was Ford .

simplest and cheapest mod is to swap the 1.5 for the 1.8 ..

the 1.5 is good for what it is
a reliable, fuel efficient, 4 cylinder with decent throttle response

its a ****ty platform to modify

it is its own engine family
no aftermarket companies make anything for it... other than gude.. but its so expensive and i could be not even worth it

the Z5 only has 1 cam sprocket
the exhaust cam is driven off a chain thats directly connected to the intake cam

if you advance the intake cam, you advance the exhaust cam in an equivalent increment

                  99% useless in my opinion

Well, we'll see what happens when it gets here.
I'll post pics of before and after.
A buddy of mine specializes in imports (has his own shop) and he said
that I wont see that big of a difference with the adj. cam gear
but i will tell some what of a difference depending on what i set it for
                    (acceleration/top end).

Here in Canada some Z5 engines had two sprockets it was a mid production split but I can't remember when the changed.

I got my Adj. Cam Gear in today!!!
I took pictures of it but they're not wanting
to upload onto the computer... I'll work on it.
I also bought a new fuel filter and some of NGK plugs.

I have a question. When I turn on my blinkers, they dont come
on. I hear them but they dont work. The fuse aint blown either.
                            Kinda weird...
