    205 40 17 vs 205 40 16

Im thinking about this and just reading one the threads got me having second thoughts about the 205 40 17s im thinking about getting although I know the alignment is a must for the 17''s What kind of offset do i need and should i just stay away from the 17's and go with the 16's ?

y would u need an alignment after putting them on? only when lowering will you.... i have a +45 off set and they fit fine... although havent lowered it yet but it should fit...

yeah man if you get 17's , try to stay with a +40 offset and run 215/40 ..

The 205/40 will be the ****tiest ride out.

Are 215's on a first gen pro a bit wide? won't they rub at full lock? not that im gonna be full locking or any thing anyway just curious

205/40/17 = Nooo rubbing, they have essentially the same diameter as the stock wheels (at least the ones that came with mine)... and if you go with a 215; well lets do some math.

          205/40/16: .40 x 205mm = 82mm tire sidewall
          205/40/17: .40 x 205mm = 82mm tire sidewall
          215/40/17: .40 x 215mm = 86mm tire sidewall

          16" x (25.4mm/1") = 406.4mm rim diameter
          (406.4mm)/2 = 203.2mm rim radius

          17" x (25.4mm/1") = 431.8mm rim diameter
          (431.8mm)/2 = 215.9mm rim radius

Wheel radius + Sidewall = Approximate radius of wheel and tire

          205/40/16: 203.2mm + 82mm tire sidewall = 285.2mm total radius
          205/40/17: 215.9mm + 82mm tire sidewall = 297.9mm total radius
          215/40/17: 215.9mm + 86mm tire sidewall = 301.9mm total radius

Check the specs on the height from the center of the wheel to the height of where the tire would rub, and check to see if its more than those numbers I guess.

As far as the width of the tire rubbing... I dont think that there are any problems with the 205's on the first gen. I'll ask around to see, but try and find out, cause I'd like to know too.

I had a question on offsets a while back on wheels when I first bought mine... Here is the thread my friend... I would go with +40 like everyone is saying. Here are some other threads too I found when I searched... Searching is awesome

215's will rub against the spring perch on the strut, unless you use spacers....
