    headlight idea

after taking apart a set of headlights (90-93 style) to clean them, an interesting idea hit me...
painting the silver housing gloss black!

i know in daylight, this would look quite nice, i'm very fond of the black housing look on headlights...(i'm planning on tinting my corners too, since a set of clears is out of the question)
legally, i don't know if it's allowed... i've seen a jetta and a civic like this, but that doesn't mean anything.

mostly i'm concerned about light output... if it's a matter of just getting a brighter headlight, then sure, but if it's going to be a severe light dampening, then i'll probably not do it...
i want to try it, but then again, if it sucks, i'm out a set of good headlights.

NO.... NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

Light does not reflect as well off of a BLACK surface. that is why it is called a BLACK surface. besides ****ing up your headlights what else does that accomplish? well all headlights have to have a reflective parabolic surface behind them.

painting the reflective surface black, is stupid and if you do any night driving it is retarded. painting the casing is ok but NOT the reflective surface, it is reflective for a reason.

i mean if you never use your headlights then fine, but it is still retarded.
When you turn your car on... does it return the favor?

ah yes, the stupid ideas i come up with without really thinking them through...
i'm probably going to paint the border parts that aren't really necessary to the light (the big extra area the driving lights are on j\e-spec lights) though.

after bringing up this idea, my cousin did this to his civic headlights, and it's hilarious.
he's still in denial that it dampened the light, but when my 45/60 watt 9004 bulbs on regular beam are twice as bright as his 90/100 watt h4's on high beam, i definitely rethought the idea.

                              Headlight Replacements?

I was gonna try and post a poll, but I haven't figured that part out yet.

I agree that the 1st gen Proteges have terrible light projection. I replaced my bulbs with some stronger ones, but the lenses are so yellowed that it hasn't helped. Aren't the Escort lights the same size? Has anyone found a way to get a lot more light without actually replacing the entire front-end (though I can't see why anyone would replace the entire front-end just for lighting)? I may go with round headlights once I replace the front bumper and grill, though I am still undecided on how I'm gonna go about doing the front.

Anyway...lights? Solutions? Pics? Replacement lenses? Give me some options, please!
I don't need a new car- this one still runs.
