    Front strut bar

Whats up all? I e-mailed someone at Mazdaformance.com and asked about a strut bar they have listed. I asked them if the bar, which was listed for 01-up model year Pros would fit on my 00 Pro sedan. He told me that the spacing b/w the terminals on a 00 and 01-up Pro are the same, but the brackets that need to be removed for a car with or without cruise control are different and might not cause the bar to fit. So basically, he told me to ask people in the forums and find out if the bar would fit? Does anyone have an idea?

If it's the OEM MP3/MSP/Pro5 strut tower bar it should fit perfectly on a 1.8 Protege (99-00 ES) and with some easy modification fit on a 1.6 Protege (99-01 DX, LX) If you have cruise control, you will need the new bracket that should be included in the kit.

I have the bar on my 99 Protege LX 1.6 and it works great. The only modification you will need to do is raise the bar up 2-3mm by buying some thick metal washers from a hardware store and placing them on the bar's mouting brackets. The reason you need to do this mod is because the 1.6 liter engine's intake manifold/throttle body comes almost in contact with the strut tower bar itself.

you know i bought one on ebay, for my 99lx and i have cruise control, it fit perfect, all i needed to do was modify one little corner of a bracket, and it fit awesome, no washers needed,i saw one on matts car, that used the washers, and it looked like ass, and, and he said the studs were allitle short, and wasnt on good, so think bout ebay, ill post pics of mine so you can see later. bout it from these guys, the one in the pic isnt the one, that brackets are diffrent.

Ive since checked back at Mazdaformance.com saw something that kinda got my attention. I was looking at the strut bar they have on the site and down near the bottom of the page there is a little note that says:

The yellow bar shown above is not what will be received. The bar you will get is silver.

I wanna know how I can get the red MP3/Mazdaspeed strut bar. Anyone know where to find it?

They are all the same bar. The red one comes on the Protege5, the yellow on the MP3, and silver on the MSP.

well like it was said on proclub, the bar hits your intake manifold, so you have to use washers to raise it up, kinda ghetto if you ask me, then if you have cruise control you have to modify your cruise control bracket to make that work also. the over all length of the bar is the right size, just needs to be modified to fit.

I just went to the website yesterday (Wed) and found the bar that you all were talkin bout. Only problem is, they don't give you the option of purchasing the red strut bar. I saw the yellow one in the Protege 5 sub-section, but nothing about the Mazdaspeed or red bar. On the page it said, " Picture shown is not of actual bar. Colors may vary". I don't want to go and order that bar and have the yellow one come instead of the red.

I have the 00 Dx sedan and don't have the cruise control. How much of a difference will that make on installin the bar? Is there any other way to keep the bar from rubbin on the intake besides addin washers? I don't want the installation and presentation to look all ghetto-fied and what not.

yeah i dunno bout the color thing, but as far as im aware the washers are the only way to do it.

if you order it you will get it in silver, which is the MSP one. The yellow one is the color that came with the MP3, but all MP3 parts are discontinued and are replaced with MSP parts. All of the strutbars are exactly the same between them, whether it be red, yellow, or silver. If you are so hell-bent on having a red one paint it. As for fitment goes, i only had to add one metal washer and it fit perfectly, and I have had no problems since. And I have the same car as you. And it will only take 5 mins. max to install especially since you don't have cruise control.
