    painting dash - replacing dash

Hey I have come to the point where I'm deciding if I should paint or change my dash board. I would like to paint it because of COURSE it'd be a lot cheaper. But I was playign with the idea of scrounging some junk yards in hope of finding a 98 ES dash and side panels in Black!

I guess my only question is if there is a different in dash boards from an ES to an none ES? I think buying a new dash would be ideal since it'd be a dash and not painted which long term could be more annoying than enjoyable. But who knows...

Whatcha think? Probably a bit pricey but manageable too...

It matters, if you want to go with painting, don't forget to put lots of coats cause my dash has been fading for a while now. If you can replace the dash then thats probably a better choice. Or you can also spend some money and get everything fiberglassed I may be doing that later in the year if I get my motor in. You can also get someone who is familiar with painting cars if you know anyone.. or maybe even a spray gun and sand da dash down and paint it.

yeah if you want it to last definately dont use spray-paint. Take the dash out and take it to body shop. Tell them to prime the **** out of it and add a flexible type of agent (they are generally made for plastic/rubber bumpers). Then block the primer nice and smooth, then have them spray it whatever color you'd like ( add the flexible agent w/ the paint and clear too, that way it wont crack if you push down on it). It'll look really nice if you do it that way. The only problem I have with fiberglassing the dash is that it'll end up being more work for them, in turn costing you more. Not to mention if someone accidently puts weight on it CRACK!

Of course if the 2nd gens have hard molded dashes then you dont need to worry about it cracking, but the first gens have a foamy vinyl. This is what I plan on doing w/ my dash and all of my interior pieces.
