    97-98 BP Swap WARNING

For anyone doing a BP swap in their 97-98, DO NOT USE AN 1.5L Harness on your BP ECU!! It will fry it! It happened to me but i was able to fix it. I plugged in my BP ecu to the 1.5l harness to see if it would work and smoke came flowing from the Ecu. What happened was the 1.5L harness sent power to pins on the BP ecu that were spose to be grounded pins. It fried the grounds and i had to recreat them on the circuit, I was lucky! Just a warning. 97-98 BP wiring is very tricky. It took me months to figure out. If anyone wants a BP harness and cant buy one off a 1.8l model (and believe me you wont be able to) contact me and i can modify your 1.5l harness to work. There are no simply modifications, the wiring has to be completely taken apart and redone. Just letting yall know...frying a 200 dollar ecu is one hell of a mistake and i dont want anyone to feel the way i did.....man, i was pissed
Also be warned, BP swaps for 97-98 is VERY VERY diffrent from BP swaps in 95-96. If you have a 97-98 contact me, if you have a 95-96 contact Bruce.

Alright assman, I had to work with what information i had. Bruce was able to basicl plug and play his with minor modifications. So i did the same mods as bruce and thought it would be ok. Obviously not. No one knew that 97-98s were so diffrent until now. you should be thanking me.

which ecu did you use. The mazda one or the kia one.

95/96 1.5 harness plugs right in , all the pin outs are the same aside from atx/mtx cooling fan output.

I used a mazda ecu. Yea Bruce, thats what im getting at. 95-96 is more or less plug and play right? Anyway, guys dont get turned off because of the wiring problem. You wont be able to straight up buy one unless you get very very lucky, I looked for 2 months with no luck. But if you need a BP wire harness you can send me a 1.5L harness and i can remake it to work.

Can you write out the information for it?
If you just switched some pins around, it may save people a lot of time and shipping costs.
                Taks photo's to.

Yeah, do a write up if possible. I am knowledgeable enough to be able to do it myself, so if you can post the instructions (pin out diagram, or whatever you used to do it) and some pointers.... it'd be awesome.

Edwin, can you please post the wiring diagrams in some format convenient to you? I would much appreciate that. Thanks! Btw, I have a 97 A/T LX harness, and a 98 M/T BP ECU.

Yeah ... i am also interested in seeing some FSMs or pinouts from 2nd gens.

I have a GTR in a 95 323 NEO and i am not a mechanic so i am still confused as to how i am going to work this out.

Why should we thank you? While it is cool you are finding out new stuff about your car, your solicitation for your knowledge isn't exactly "helpful" to people here.

I share lots of information I find out, yet you want to sell the information you found out by "modifying" peoples harnesses instead of just posting how they can modify their own. Until you do that, I don't think anyone should be thanking you.

because then he would be doing everything for you and you would learn how to follow directions rather than using your head. people are lazy nowadays
