    EGT Question

What is the maximum EGT the BPT engine can take. I need to know when my car is running dangerously lean. I ask because I have a 323 with a BPT engine and I want to know what is the limit. Right now in fourth the car runs at 1300F. I think is running lean but no signs of detonation.

Here are my mods for reference:

    Mazda 323 1994

    RX-7 non-turbo AFM.

    Factory BPT Intercooler.

3-inch mandrel bent exhaust no cat with a 3-inch in and out Dynomax Ultra flow muffler.

Greddy Profec B Boost Controller set at 11 PSI.

Autometer Cobalt EGT and Boost Gauge.

ACT Heavy Duty clutch with street disc, Protege SOHC Flywheel.

NGK V-Power Plugs #6 heat range.

    K&N Cone Filter.

    BP01 Protege ECU.

Obviously my next will be a Walbro in tank fuel pump.

Any other recommendation will be appreciated.

    Thanks

Yah your running pretty lean. You wanna be in the 850F range, I would definitley start with the fuel pump...I also noticed you said your running the Protege ECU? Why would you be doing that, it obviously doesnt know your running a turbo. Do you have anything to control the fuel?

Right now I don't have any fuel management. I am relaying only of the stock GTX injectors and fuel pressure regulator. I am using that ECU because is the only computer that I have for now, but for my surprise the car pulls strong with that ECU. Later I will install a Microtech engine management unit.

I think 850F is a little bit low. Other guys that have the same engine said to me that the optimum range is between 1000F and 1200F.

Yah see I've heard 850f is where you wanna be at WOT. Im in middle of a t3.4 project and I have an EGT guage installed but not hooked up yet. I'm gonna be running 550cc injectors, and I was told by like 3 people that u want it in the 800's range.

Do you have a BPT engine also? What mods do you have already? ET, Trap speed?

My goal with the car is to make 13 seconds ET or at least 103mph trap speed. I think is posible with the Microtech and bigger fuel injectors using the stock VJ-20 Turbo.

You could get in the mid 13 even with the stock bp n/a ecu it's just about tuning the vaf and a good boots timing retard piggyback. Where running one gtr engine and two gtx engine with the n/a ecu and have no trouble what so ever except traction. My protege with gtx engine has done a 13.6 at 102 mpg last year hoping for a high 12 this season, the escort with the gtr engine didn't do well on time 14.4 has it was to cold but still manage a 104mph trap speed which put's him in the mid to low 13 range with good traction

But when i install the motor i should have my greddy e-manage by then w/the injector harness and ignition harness as well. I also have a greddy egt gauge..

I'm sorry mazdatgts, I meant to say 850C and I put F. My bad, yah I have a gtx engine. With a system, 17's and full interior I've managed to hit 14.2. That was my best time on street tires. I wont be going back with the vj20 =) Its tought to break 13's on street tires, and not using really sticky **** if I remember correctly Atilia used.

So if you putting 850 Celsius that is approximately 1,500 Fahrenheit. My engine is running about 1200F to 1300F that means that my engine EGT is ok. In fact is running flawlessly.

yes it runs safe but if you run higher egt's you will make more power. when you run too hot you melt pistons ot othher things. best thing is to go to dyno and tune there. use egt as a warning guge .
