[struts/shocks] familia gtx vs 2wd protege?

I posted this same question on erdt forum, so if u reply to either its fine.

This is stressing me, and i need some help with this the sooner the better

will the struts from a 1.8 familia gtx (90+) interchange with the escort/protege struts?

I know that the 90-91 AWD protege uses the same struts front and rear as the escort/protege, but does that stand for the 323 as well?

I found a company that is selling them for a "323 4X4", but doesnt indicate years, I still have to call them and clear up whether they only mean 88-89 only or not, but the company headquarters are in britain, so i'm guessing it's not only 88-89 years.

I have a similar question related to ford laser shocks, but the ones i found for that car are way out of my price range, so i'll hold off that question for now

    Thanx for any help.

PS: I know there are some ppl who are out of the US and probably have access to the actual struts/shocks, so maybe you guys won't mind taking some measurments for me?

They mean 88-89 323GTX...NOT the same.

    Why not just get Tokicos?

I know they are not the same, personally tried to see if i can make em fit. however, i thought the 1.8 BPT ones were also AWD? or not?

rally suspension is what i'm looking for.

the 1.8 BPT was 90+ not pre 90.
You can get the front struts to fit but I don't know about the rears. I only laid my personal eyes on a GTR front clip with struts.

Did they look identical to the protege ones, or did you notice some differneces?

The US gtx uses the same shocks/struts for both AWD and FWD versions, so if the fronts on the later familias are identical to protege, then my guess would be the rears are as well.

yeah Adam's struts on the GTR looked identical. or actuall let me be more specific.
The mounting points were the same.
The upper mounts had 4 holes like the 1st gens and bottom had 2 holes.

As far as shock rate, spring height ... I didn't have the slightest idea.

Ofcourse why you would take the chance on ordering parts like that from overseas and not knowing 100% if they will fit , when you have perfectly find shocks here that could be used with stock springs for rallying is way way beyond me.

what about the diameter of the knuckle? looked similar?

Well ppl spend $4-$5K on DMS suspension, so i guess there is a reason. Street shocks are not oriented for going 80 mph on gravel roads. I can't afford DMS and it makes little sense on a $1K car, but if i can find something in between ill be happy. And they are based in Britain, with distributors in different parts of the world including US.

But yeah, if this doesnt work out, its going to be GR-2s and either ground control or the cheap ebay coils. Those seem to work fine so far.

You asked that in another thread you started...I'm pretty sure it was answered there.

Finding a used GT-R rear differ-
ential will be near impossible, however the parts needed to correctly make a GT-R
rear differential is available from 90-93 LSD equiped Miata. Keep in mind that not
all of the 90-93 Miatas came with LSDs, so look around at the junk yard! If you
choose not to have the viscous LSD (which may prove inadequate) and use the
stronger aftermarket LSDs, you can skip the junkyard trip if you want. However,
you will still need the differential's output shafts which will set you back about $200
retail from the dealer. Regardless of what you choose to do, you will have to rebuild
the differential unless you are very lucky to get a GT-R one from a Japanese junk
yard! All the other parts such as the axles bolt on to the LSD housing (meaning the
GT-X and GT-R axles are the same).

yes I am very certain all 4 struts interchange. the front and rear hubs are almost identical (rears are a bit diff in the center obviously)
