Test drove a 2004 WRX wagon...

... and I think it made me like my Pro a little more

I loved the WRX and it's nice and new and man does it accelerate once the turbo spools up. I didn't know they did 60 mph in 2nd gear.

But the ride was pretty stiff and the seating was a little tight. I'd love to have a new car and it sure is a performer, but my 13 year old Pro wiht 116K miles on it has a lot of character and I don't own anyone any money on it I am a little concerned about reliability because stuff is starting to leak, rust, corrode, and break, especially the wiring connections, but overall it has been reliable. It only left me stranded once in 7 months and that was because the alternator pulley was chewing through belts (rust on the pulley from sitting for a year).

The price on the WRX was very attractive, but they'll probably have to come down another $1000-2000 to make me bite.

Don't you just love your Pro?

WOW! That was a fast move. Isn't this thread about 1st gens also? Might as well put it in the Fun/Scenic Roads forum; no one will see it there.

I'd love to get a Mazda3, but they don't come in AWD

Yeah! I wanted my dad to check out the Mazdas, but they didn't come in AWD. It's possible that the 6 will. But we got the WRX more than a year ago, so too late for that.

I dont like subaru, I think it's an ugly looking car (especially that truck looking one). I think mazda has class and better fuel economy

Shoot, I remeber I test drove a WRX and wooo damn that thing was fast. Well I had a 1.5L protege, what do you expect?. Damn I loved the way the turbo spooled up. That just made me nuts. lol.

I have to say though I was not fond of the front, but after the test drive the looks started to grow on me. I think if I did purchase it, the looks would have grown on me within time.

When I drove off in my protege it wasn't the same though.
What can you expect, going from 200 hp to 98 hp. lol.
                        that was fun.

I prefer my '92 pro to my moms '02 Jetta 1.8t,
the Jetta isn't much faster (if any) than the Protege, and the seats aren't as comfy
