what do you guys think about a BP auto?

would it be a lot better to replace my SOHC with a bp while keeping the autox? cause i think then i would just need the harness and ecu then bolt it all back in right? that motor would only cost 130$ here...then i could get a MT later.... i just wanna hear some thoughts.

related Q. would an auto BP car be quicker than a MT SOHC one????

i would think an INTACT bp/harnes/ecu might be harder to find then a mt.....buy 1 and SAVE YOUR MONEY for the other and do 1 big swap

already found an intact bp/harness/ecu. its in an escort. the money thing is a really long story. basically, if plane tickets to europe dont get cheaper by june then i will have money to spend on car stuff. if i actually do go to europe i wont have as much. plus if i dont go to europe for the summer i can get a job

yeah my SOHC motor isnt running the best ever because of something i did recently...very bad...it smokes a little in the morning when i start it now, but i guess it drives the same as before...so i might drop a BP in because it will be cheap/easy. but it depends on a few things.

If you can get the escort motor for 130 with the harness and ecu, take it.
Then take that home and put it down. Heck if it is a 5 speed and you can get the tranny and shift linkage and other things you need to do the 5 speed swap and you have the money, get that also.

But I don't think it is worth it for you to drop the Bp in the protege in auto form.
I honestly thing your personal gain would be a lot greater if you waited and did one big install.

Depending on the condition of your motor, it should last you for a bit more. Just stay on top of your oil changes.

not only oil changes but driving the car hard all the time *lie*like i never do*lie* kills the motor faster then some old grandma that shifts at 2k lol

I would say wait. Just get an oil change.. Keep your oil up to date and leveled. Then purchase the Bp and store it. Take your time gather all the parts you need. Change the water pump and headgasket and timing belt.
If you take your time and put everything together you will have a quick running car that you did in only one swap.

Remember to grap that drivers side tranny mount on the escort. You will need that.

i think my lx goes rather well for being an auto...
i'd love to do a 5spd swap, but before doing that, make sure you know how to drive one...
*cough*probably why i haven't jumped on it yet...
i wonder how much whp i have in comparison to a 5sp lx

i was kind of put off from driving a 5spd when my cousin in his '93 civic tried teaching me...
i was doing all right, but i couldn't stand driving that thing.
lowered almost 4 inches all around, 17's inch rims with REALLY bad camber, leaking skunk2 exhaust, almost dead clutch, not working power steering, etc...
i bet i'd be fine in my protege... i'll probably do it when my auto is dying.

yeah the first car i tried to learn on was a 1992 colt. that thing was a serious POS. especially since the car i normally drove was an acura legend. those were the days...
