A visit from the big brown truck

Look what was waiting for me when I got home today! Thanks, AWR! They're going in this weekend if the weather holds. I'll post results when I'm done.
I guess this is the first thing I've done to this car that really counts as a mod...

Im a dummy on this territory of car knowledge...
Isnt a motormount here just to hold the engine? How can it improve performance?
            Thnx

The stock engine mounts are very soft and allow the engine to buck back and forth when the engine is revved. The AWR mounts are stiffer, stopping some of the engine movement. Less drivetrain loss and wheel hop.

                Half done...

Got the front mount in. It's about a 15 minute job once you get the right tools. The through-bolt is insanely tight, but once I got a 1/2" drive 17mm socket, and popped it on my breaker bar, I got it loose. From there it's a piece of cake.
Now I see why the stock mounts are so soft! Look at that HUGE air gap in there:

And the new front one installed, seen from under the car:

                And from the top:

First driving impressions: There is quite a lot more vibration, especially after the engine warms up & the idle slows down. It's also noticeably noisier, but not terrible. The clutch feels a whole lot better. Much more solid take-up, more positive feel, and fewer rpms to get the car moving. It's a little jumpy from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd, but I'm assuming that's just me getting used to the new feel. There's still a little "rubber-banding," but I'm guessing that will go away once I get the rear mount installed.
I was going to do the rear mount today too, but I don't feel like spending all day under the car. I'll do it when I have a whole day to work on it, and am not under the threat of rain...

No, I haven't done the rear one. Next weekend, maybe. I have to figure out how to get at the through-bolt. i can get the 3 mount-to-subframe bolts from the top, it looks like. But the rest will have to be done from the bottom, and I didn't have the ambition to jack up the car.
