Z5 Motor REQUIRES 91 octane gas...

    Yes, as the title says....

my owners manual for my 1998 Protege 1.5L says that nothing less that 91 octane should be in our cars....

    is everyone aware of this?

is my owners manual different than anyone elses?

it just doesent seem right that a $13000 car brand new needs premium gas

    any comments?

Is that the (R+N/2) rating? (Might be called AKI)

My old Mitsubishi Mirage (86) with a 1.5L also needed 91 octane according to the manual for it. So it might not be that strange....

I wonder if Canadian owners manual is different from the US one. Mine clearly says that 87 should be used.

If that's true, Mazda is stupid. It's an economy car for christ's sake!

forget scanning it... im just gonna type it word for word...

"Your Mazda will perform best with regular unleaded fuel having a research octane (antiknock index) of at least 91 [(R+M)/2 method, 87]."

so it says 91 in there and 87 in there...
                              which is right?

and what does R+M/2 method mean?
