    tryin to get that umph!

the car needs some power. i have a 99 1.6 5spd. what its like 105 horse? yeah thats not gonna do it. im lookin to compete with these bad ass si boys and there gsr's. now the stock si's push about 160 and the gsr's 170 (roughly). i need about 180. i know i know ...go turbo, but theres another kind of turbo. i saw this turbo kit that runs a garret turbo on a stock motor at like 6 psi. the only thing is, it says it adds 50% more hp. thatll get me up to about 153hp. i was thinking about flywheel, intake filter, clutch, and because its cheaper a custom exhaust by monroe muffler w/ megan racing muffler. the turbo kit is about $1700. is all this worth it, or should i just intake, exhaust, header, clutch, flywheel, and shortshift it

dude trust me on this one, i have a 99 1.6 litre, and nothing but a turbo is going to make any kind of noticible power in this car. i had all the mods you are thinking about doing, and it was still slow as ****. you need a turbo to make any kinda gains. and yes the turbo is worth every penny.

I/H/E mods don't respond well on the 1.6. Either turbo the 1.6, waste money on an engine swap, or get a faster car. I recommend an RSX-S with Hondata myself.

are there any major or minor problems with puttin a turbo on a stock motor, i dont wanna do anything too stupid or stress the motor too much?

i have a turbo on my stock motor, and it runs fine, yes it is probably going to shorten the life of the engine more then likey, but if it is a well thought out kit, and tuned right, and kept to a reasonable boost level, you should have no problems. its up to you how you want to treat it.

yeah keeping your car close to stock will get you nowhere slow.

I mean the SI's and GSR's will literally rape you easily. I mean take Ben's car and my BP protege for example. stock for stock I would kill him easily by like 5 or 6 car lengths and he has way more mods than me. But stock protege against his turbo 1.6, he would easily kill me by about 3 or 4 car lengths (when his boost does kick in).

I have to say, I rode in bens car and it is very frigin respectable. That turbo really made a big, uhh no , huge difference with that motor. I mean it makes you look at the car in a totally different manner.

My frigin ACE1 recomendation, If you have the cash foot the money and get the turbo kit.
A 1.6 is just dead in the water without boost. I have to say that I think the 1.5 dohc z5 (2nd gen)motor would be just as respectable with a turbo on it also.

              Boostyecah.

Goldpro, I am looking to add some more aftermarket stuff to my 1.6, I was just curious, what kind of flywheel and clutch do you have. I was looking and ACT makes a clutch but I have not been able to find a flywheel. Any help. Also, what are your 1/4 mile times if you have brought it to the track and raced it. The more i read about this turbo stuff, the more I want to do it.

no matter what you do or how you do it, the civic si and integra gsr have more parts and have been tuned longer and are more popular, they have so many parts you will never keep up with tuning, like negatize said buy something faster.
