power door lock issue - mercury mountanier

OK... so I am getting a (very) used '97 Mercury Mountanier (175k highway miles, very little rust, V8, AWD) for really cheap money. So I think it will serve as a good winter beater as well as for the occasional trailer towing I do (2,000lbs trailer is a bit much for a Protege).

Here is the problem it has... the power locks do not work... but not all the time. The main power lock switches (driver and passenger door) are intermittent as well as the key fob. The power lock switch at the back of the truck by the hatch always works. I am thinking that there is some corrosion in one of the plugs along the way or something is loose. Does that sound as a reasonable starting point?
