    86-92 RX-7 sunroof

does anybody know if the 86-92 RX-7 sunroofs will fit into our cars. cuz i was looking at them in the junkyard and i tried to measure my sunroof and than an RX-7 one with a string. it came close to being the same, but it was hard to tell cuz i was using a string and i couldn't remember if i had pulled it tight for measuring one and not pulling it tight for measuring the other one. i didn't have a tape measure with me so i couldn't tell for sure. just wondered if anybody knew if they could fit or not???!!!!

I've decided that my car is a girl, she's picky as hell, won't listen to me, always wants to fight me, and when i give her presents it's never good enough and she always wants more.

Never heard of anyone installing a 2nd gen RX-7 sunroof into a Protege. They are different unibodies so I doubt that it'll fit, but is worth a try anyway. Next time you visit the junkyard just grab something that will more accurately measure the difference and you'll know.

Are you looking for a glass sunroof? If so, an Escort GT or Mercury Tracer sunroof will work and they can be found more often than 2nd gen RX-7s most of the time.

yeah i saw an escort gt there with a glass sunroof and it almost came out with the same measurements (string lengths, yeah i know it's ghetto but it's all i had) as the RX-7 one

        the main reason is this

and if it works, nobody can steal my idea, it's mine!!!!!!!!!!!

Judging by those two pictures, visually it looks different to me. You might want to send the seller an e-mail asking him the exact measurements. Good find, but I don't think it'll work without some major custom work.

i dunno, they were pretty close when i was measuring them. i'm gonna go back to the junk yard tomorrow and measure them again. if it is a little too wide than i don't mind cutting it a bit. i'll measure it tomorrow and post what i find.

Cutting it might prove to be a challange. Don't attempt to do it if you're not sure exactly what you're getting into. Don't want to end up with a sunroof that leaks once it starts raining. And then, you'd have to do the same thing to the carbon fiber piece......ouch!

If you properly read the thread, you'll notice that he doesn't want a glass EGT/Tracer sunroof.

I don't think he's going for a weight-saving design. Regardless of what they tell you, most people with CF hoods, sunroofs, etc. don't get them because they're lightweight. It's purely aesthetic. In some cases it looks good; in many it does not. I think a CF sunroof would look alright tho. What color is your car?

Then wrap the stock moonroof panel with cf wrap ****, it won't look any different.

i would just have to modify the sunroof piece that goes in. i have a LX with a sunroof right now.

sunroofs aren't something to mess around with, you don't want anything but a direct fit...

carbon fiber sunroof seems a bit excessive, especially for $200

i agree with if you want that look, just use the tape stuff
