    Best junkyard available turbo

What is the best US stock turbo( i.e junkyard turbo) I can get for my BP?

I would like to use the stock GTX turbo(VJ-20) but doubt any us cars came equipped with one. I I'm trying to stay away from smaller turbo's like the VJ-11 that will limit my future potential, there is also a VJ-12 and VJ-14 but these came on 1.5L engines I think they would have the same problems as the VJ-11
I have also heard of the VJ-17 but from what I can tell it was used in mazda's rally cars.

The next batch of turbo's that are available at the junkyard would be from a ford
2.3L turbo motor. I haven't heard of anyone using these on the BP but from what I can tell the turbos used in the Merkur XR4Ti, Mustang SVO, and Thunderbird TC were different turbo's. Ranging from the TB0322 to TB0344 to TB0355
(please correct me if these are the same)

Also available at the junkyard are DSM turbos, would a 14B be a good choice.
I have heard that 1G turbo's are an upgrade for the 2G, so I should probably stay away from the 2G DSM turbo's.

I'm going to the junkyard saturday for a "pullathon" and would like to have a idea of what is the best way to go. Any insight would be appreciated

p.s what turbo could I make the most money off of on ebay, I could use some extra cash.

i agree, if it's all you can carry . . . take 'em all! I mean, worse comes to worse, you just . . . throw them away!

Those things are heavier than you think with manifold and everything. Might only be able to carry two unless your a Heman or take off the exhaust manny. Take along a breaker bar of some sort too, those bolts can be extremely hard to get off.

The pre 87 Tbirds came with T3/T4 (or maybe it was just T3) not sure exactly what trim, the post 87 T-birds came with an IHI its in the same family as the VJ-11 and others. The T-bird RHB5 has a bigger compressor wheel and housing though. For now I am going to be using that turbo, because I got it for, well, free. It also has a T3 flange so upgradeing isnt going to mean modifying/fabricating a new manifold.

Seems like he answered his own Q ..

But I would love to get my hands on either an 1g/2g eclipse turbo or a saab T3 turbo.
I want a Saab T3 turbo for the 323 but you didn't just read that.

I think the best one from a junkyard would be a Saab T3(The one I have ) or a 14b from a 1st gen DSM.
