    Tire sizes

I'm going to be replacing the (crappy!) stock Dunlops on my 02 ES soon. Since I can't find anything worthwhile in the stock 195/50-16 size, I'm thinking about using 205/50-16. Any thoughts? The tire calculator someone posted said the larger size would give me a +1.6% difference in diameter. If I was reading 60 on my speedo, I'd actually be doing 61. Any other problems that would arise by doing this? Thanks!

    Re: Tire sizes

A number of people on the Forums have replaced the OEM size with 205/50-16's and have liked the results. The speedometer error is not really significant so should not be a problem. Usually, a 205 width tire calls for a minimum 6.5" wide rim but many people who have carried out this mod report no problems. With the larger rolling diameter and probably heavier tire/wheel combination, you might notice some decrease in acceleration but I don't know how noticeable this would be.

I'm just reporting what I've read on the forum. Since I've never done this, I have no personal experience with this particular mod.

the +1.6% difference in overall diameter will slightly decrease acceleration, but also slightly increase gas mileage! wee! Otherwise, you could try a 205/45/16. I think the difference in overall diameter will decrease, so the effects I have described will be swapped.

Thanks for the info, guys. I think I may go with the 205/45-16. I found a sweet Pirelli in that size for a good price.
