Day 1. Find your seats. These MX-6 seats are from an 1988 MX-6 GT
Pulling the mx-6 seats is very easy. Pull away the plastic tabs exposing the bolts on all 4 sides. Use a 14mm socket to remove the bolts from the floor. The passenger mx-6 seat will have the amplifier for the radio bolted to the bottom. Remove this too. Then unplug any cables underneath breaking the seats free.

Pic #2 Notice the mx-6 seat is 3" lower in ride height, and form of the MX6 seat (left) vs. OEM 94 DX Protege seat (right). Notice the mx-6 bucket form vs the protege springs.
Day 2.
Home Depot has a supply of raw steel. They have round bar, tubes, angle iron, slotted angle iron, slotted flat bar, flat bar.
The piece of steel I will be using is general flat bar; 1 1/4" wide x 48" long x 1/8" thick. (3.175 cm x 121.92 cm x 0.3175 cm respectfully). The price was $5.56US plus tax.
