    2005 Mazda6 Zugara Special Edition

Mazda is looking to hot up the Mazda6 for the summer with a sporty new special edition – the Mazda6 Zugara – available from 1 July 2004. The model takes its name from the Japanese word for ‘design’ and will be priced from £19,000 on-the-road.

The Mazda6 Zugara, powered by the Mazda’s 2.3-litre 166ps (164bhp) petrol engine, comes fitted with features such as unique 18-inch alloy wheels, modified and tuned suspension, a six-disc CD auto-changer and a unique part leather, part cloth interior. Customers are also given the option of having a SmartNav global positioning system fitted onto the vehicle absolutely free, an invaluable tool for company car users or regular long distance travellers.

Mazda is releasing just 500 of the limited edition models, with 300 available in a five-door hatchback body shape at £19,000 and 200 estate cars costing £20,000 each. The Mazda6 Zugara will be available in three dynamic colours: Velocity Red, Titanium Grey or Black Mica, and also comes with a seven speaker BOSE audio system.

All the usual safety features are fitted as standard to the Mazda6 Zugara with six airbags including driver and front passenger dual stage smart airbags, front seat side airbags and full-length front and rear curtain airbags. Anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) give shorter stopping distances and safer braking control.

The Mazda6 2.3-litre produces 207Nm (153lb ft) of torque at 4,000rpm and returns 31.0mpg on the combined cycle. It achieves 0-62mph in an impressive 9.0 seconds and has a top speed of 131mph. The insurance group for Mazda6 Zugara is 13E, the same as the standard Mazda6 2.3-litre sport model.

Comfort and convenience are high priorities too, so the Mazda6 provides a spacious cabin with excellent ergonomic positioning of the seats and controls. The load-space volume of the saloon is enhanced by remarkable flexibility in the hatchback, which features a ‘one-touch’ karakuri system to fold the entire rear seat structure. This ‘karakuri’ seat system instantly creates a completely flat load floor simply by pulling one handle for each of the seat backs to give a 60/40 split.

The chassis and suspension of the Mazda6 has been tuned to give sporty handling; all this offers a great handling car that has a sporty feel but is a practical and functional family car with the quality, durability and reliability standard with all Mazdas.

The Mazda6 was the best selling Mazda model in 2003 with 14,423 units sold for its first full year of sales. 2004 has also seen a strong year of sales for the Mazda6 with 6,228 sales recorded by the end of May and another 1,000 predicted for June.

Mazda6 is a vehicle that has successfully penetrated the competitive C/D segment since its launch in June 2002 and has won many accolades such as What Car? Estate Car of the Year 2003 and 2004 and Scottish Car of the Year 2002.
