    '91 DX corner weights (from NHTSA)

    I was looking around the NHTSA website and found their vehicle database and I looked up a few reports.

    The Proteges tested seem to be all base engined automatic tranny models, but anyway, they list a lot of useful stats on the cars, like the corner weights and ride height of the car as delivered.

    Here is a '91 Protege DX auto:
    (No passengers, all fluids at max level):

    LF = 741 RF = 759 Front = 1500 = 62%
    LR = 472 RR = 445 Rear = 917 = 38%

    Total = 2417

    LF to RR diag = 1186 = 49.1%
    RF to LR diag = 1231 = 50.9%

    Ride height (fender lip to floor):
    LF=25.1in RF=25.6in
    LR=25.4in RR=25.8in

    The 2nd Gen weights are pretty much the same as the first gens. The 3rd gens are a little bit heavier (like 50 pounds).

    looks right. Mazda got the corner weights almost spot on from the factory.

    The DOHC models will add a bit of weight, but it shouldn't be much different percentage wise.

      so would the weight balance be 62/38 or 49.1/50.9. If its the latter, then thats almost a perfect weight distribution> But I doubt it since its fwd.

          Usually you see the front to rear weight bias, which would be the 62/38 number.

          The other is just cross weights, something that you have to have a bit more understanding of car dynamics to interpet.
