    a few more turbo questions

i've read through some of the threads about the differences between all of the VJ turbos, but i am still unclear as to wheather or not you can use any VJ turbo on the BPT turbo manifold. basically, i have a custom turbo manifold with a VJ-11 turbo, but the manifold is a POS. i like the way my car runs with the VJ-11 so i just want to get the BPT manifold if i can bolt my VJ-11 to it. is this possible? also, has anyone ever mated a vj-11 exhaust side to the compressor side of a VJ-20? if so, how'd it work?

I dont think that the VJ-11 will bolt up to the GTX manifold.

I also don't think that anyone has tried using the compressor off of the VJ-20. The VJ-20 isn't very much bigger than the 11, and is going to be harder to find, and parts are more expensive for it. Although the MX-6 guys have been using the T-bird RHB5 Compressor sides on the VJ-11's and are getting decent gains out of doing that. All that is required is getting your shaft balanced afterwards to ensure logevity of the turbo.

I had a VJ-11 I was going to use on my protege, but ended up getting rid of it for a T-bird RHB5. That way I won't have to worry about re-building the turbo. Also on another very positive note the T-bird turbos has a T3 flange on it, so it will be alot easier for me to upgrade to a better turbo.

I suggest that since you are needing another manifold, that you go ahead and get a better turbo at the same time. The VJ-11 is probably one of the smallest turbos that you can find for a car. Actually I was reading that Motorcycle guys that plan on turboing recommend using the VJ-11.

Only do this if you plan on upgradeing in the future. If you are perfectly happy with it then, of course, don't listen to me.

It really depends on who you have do it and the quality of the work. It can cost anywhere from $90 for a piece of crap to $700 for a pretty decent one to even more.

Someone on here is running a Miata tubular manifold w/ a T3 flange. I think he said he had to cut the flange off and put another one on it. I did a search and found a thread, but all of the pics were broken so.... The E-bay manifolds go for about $200-$250 I think plus shipping. I am planning on getting a Miata manifold, if I don't I plan on makeing my own ****ty one!

Ain't the Miata manifold supposed to hit the radiator?

No, pointed in there stock possition, they hit the hood with the turbo attached. The flange was cut off and turned upsite down to point the turbo down like most others using a BP in a BG chassis...iirc

I'm not too sure on the Miata manifold hitting the radiator or not. I know that there really isn't much room, but I have a smaller radiator and no A/C Condensor, so there is plenty of room for it to stick out to the bumper if it liked.

I kinda like the idea of the turbo being on top, so I think I might go ahead and keep it like that. Hood, as well as radiator, clerance really depends on the turbo that you are going to use also.

Anyways my plans have changed and I will probably be selling off all of my turbo stuff anyways. Probably for really cheap, so if I do I will let you guys on the board know first. Probably just take whatever is offered for my stuff.
