Want to turbo bro 91 Protege LX

    hi everybody,
i've been reading as many post as i can on turboed BP engine.
and damn there is some real turbo maniac here

    first the car is :
1991 Protege LX 1.8 DOHC, manual, 175k, bone stock for now. only good esthetic. i'll post some pics later tonight.

now i've got some questions and need some good advice.

    here are my plan.
i want to get aprox. 170-175whp. i'll be running 9psiof boost and be intercooled. i want to know if i'm realist and if i'm on the right way.

    Turbo Parts
    -GTX Turbo Manifold
    -VJ-20 Turbo
    -1st gen DSM BOV
    -Starion/Conquest TSI Intercooler
    -Joe or Hallman MBC
    -Hard Pipe With Sillicone Connector
    -Custom Downpipe 2.5in
-Straight Pipe 2.5in Exhaust Line (no cat, no resonater)
    -Flowmaster Exhaust

    Fuel
    -RX-7 Fuel Pump
-Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator(who make one exept cartech?)

    Ignition
    -Colder Spark Plug
    -Better Wire

    Interior Gauge
    -Boost Gauge
    -A/F Gauge
    -Fuel Pressure

I'll take in consideration that our stock bp engine take 45psi of fuel pressure.
i want to boost 9 psi of boost.
since each psi of boost required aproxx. 6psi of fuel. so if i run 9psi of boost i will need aproxx. 99psi of fuel presure.

with the stock rx-7 fuel pump and a RRFPR i should be able to run in the green zone. am i right?

i'm assuming that it will cost me aproxx. 2800$cnd.

Any suggestion or anything else fell free to tell.

What kind of engine management will you be running? GTX Ecu, Haltech, etc.

Any universal RRFPR should work just fine. BEGI (aka Cartech) is the one that's most popular with this car.

You're from Canada and have a DOHC first gen LX??
Was it imported from the U.S.??

I read the Canadian import list one time. I think importing the 90-94 Protege is actually disallowed. Probably because of the stupid mechanical seat-belts.

ok lemme go over my list and I make the power you want, 174 whp 176 ft/lbs..

GTX Engine (n/a bp will be fine w/stock internals and crap for 9 psi)
Ford Escort ECU and Harness (no piggybacks, no RRFPR, nothing)
Msd Blaster coil, NGK wires/plugs (factory replacement stuff)
26.5+/-"x6"x3" spearco FMIC w/2.5" pipping all around. cone filter, rx7 vaf, and greddy bov

Right off the dump pipe of the turbo i have the stock escort exh.. 1 7/8" dia flex pipe, resonator, muffler, cat I gotta be RAPING power from this thing lol.

Now the wastegate is set to .6 bar from factory on the vj20 so that's 8.8psi roughly what you want to run. I say you don't go w/a mbc. I had a cheapo one and it spiked liek crap lol I threw it in the garbage I want to save up for an electronic. I hear the turboxs works beautifly though.

I don't recomend using the stock n/a BP ecu and harness unless you have the GTX 330s at least though. But my car was dyno'd and the a/fs were deff safe. The mechanic told me i could use a little bit of timming retard but that will come later w/the haltech. It is safe though. but your setup may vary, don't blame me for **** lol.

I'm pretty sure I included everything just lemme know if you have any questions

Ok so if i go with something like your setup it will be like this.

              Turbo Parts
              -GTX Turbo Manifold
              -VJ-20 Turbo
              -1st gen DSM BOV
              -Starion/Conquest TSI Intercooler
-2.5in Hard Pipe With Sillicone Connector
              -Custom Downpipe 2.5in
-Straight Pipe 2.5in Exhaust Line (no cat, no resonater)
              -Flowmaster Exhaust
              -EBC

              Fuel
-Escort ECU and Harness ---What year?,What trim(lx,gt?)?,How Much aproxx.?---

              Ignition
              -NGK Wire (already got them)
-NGK Plugs (already got them 500km)

              Interior Gauge
              -Boost Gauge
              -A/F Gauge
              -Fuel Pressure

now i want to know how can i get the VJ-20 turbo and how much it will cost me approx.

And what's the difference between the LX and GT???
              i got:
              1.8l DOCH
              power window
              power lock
and it has a LX badge on it. i'll take pic later this afternoon.

That's what you're running, right? (EGT ECU + GTX injectors)

What year is it? This is the second Quebec-GT I've heard of that is badged as an LX.

                  Can't wait for those pics!

BTW, your turbo project is pretty interesting as I've been thinknig the same thing lately. Let me know where you're getting the mani and turbo from...maybe we could get a price break for ordering 2? Oh, and what are you doing for injectors?

                    it's an 1991.

how could i tell it's a GT??? is it benefical or not? don't know anything about the GT yet . For the turbo project i think i'll be able to get the turbo manif and turbo just by this winter. but i think about getting a custom manifold done with a T3 flange to use the RHB5 t-bird turbo.

how much would a custom manif. cost?

                      ok here's my mistake.
First it's my bro car and he doesn't know alot about mecanic. it's why i'm searching info for i'm and try to make his turbo setup.

he said it was an LX (cause the previous owner said it to him but he removed the badge before painting)

he also told me it was a DOHC 1.8l, so i searched info about the doch engine.
but he just showed my is engine and i found that it was a SOHC engine

                      btw here are some pics.

yup, its an lx... the motor is a SOHC.. so you will need to find an ecu and harness for it

so now i think it will cost to much to swap a DOHC engine and then turbo it

anyone can give me info on how to get a GTX engine, ecu, harness, etc and help on how to swap it.
something like links or give me some name of person who already did it.

                            maybe not by the way.
i'm still thinking that a doch swap would be a first nice gain over the sohc engine and then turbo it.

what would my bro need for a dohc swap. part price etc. maybe link if you got some

You should buy a BPT and sell all the turbo stuff to me and you'll have an N/A motor! :D
