stock escort ZX2 struts fit? stiffer springs?

    hey
    i need some quick help

i need to replace my front shock/strut package
    and need some quick help

do escort ZX2 struts fit, just bolt right up? are there valveing and spring rates stiffer?
    or offer better performance?
i need to get some used parts for a tempary fix
i read something about thrust berings?
    what are those?
otherwise i will have to use normal protege lx package, which will also be older

i want to pick up newer ZX2 ones cause i figure there in better shape and stiffer

i dont need a spring compressor for that right?
i can just unbolt and rebolt the things?
it needs to be done by friday for work and an autocross on sat

the ZX2 or any 97+ Escort will have a larger strut shaft than the Protege (22mm vs 20mm) so if you did get those struts you'd need the thrust bearings AND the top perches. You can modify the Protege perches, but for a temp fix, it may not be in your best interest. Unless you plan to get the S/R struts.

Thrust bearings are what allow the strut/spring assembly to pivot when you turn the steering wheel. So ya only need 2 up front. They install between the upper perch and upper mount.

I know the S/R struts are about a 1/2" shorter, not sure about the non S/R ZX2's or 97+ Escorts. But yes, they basically bolt right up (see above) The S/Rs have stiffer valving, no idea about the non S/Rs though. They might be a hair stiffer, seeing the ZX2/97+ Escort's are a bit heavier.

If you are also swaping springs, YES you need a spring compressor. If your just swaping complete assemblies, then no, not needed.

        Yeah, lol. What he said...
14x6 Miata 7-spoke alloys, 20mm Protege Swaybar, Progress Suspension Springs, Kemanized Intake with K&N Filtercharger, Iceman Cold Air Intake, B&M Short Throw Shifter, CWQ3 S/R PCM, and one hell of a reckless driver.

Euro ride: RHD 1990 Mazda 323F GT. Painfully stock.

well my struts are fine for now
its just my front springs that are broken
and i wanted to buy used struts
so i wouldnet have to compress or de-compress my springs
but all the used strut assemblies i found were in a tornado or something
          so
i ended up ordering new springs for the front, from discount/advance auto parts
          50 bux

and this morning i have to unbolt my struts
and walk over to a shop i found by my house with them
so they can change both the springs
          for like 30 dollars?
they also might make a custom exaust for me
          he has a mandrel bender
          and reccomended 2 inch pipe
with a new muffler he estimated around 170
another 50 if i want to replace my rusty cat

          is that a good price?
I have all my stock hangers
but he wanted to use this long muffler that looks like a cherry bomb
          for a pickup truck
but insted of being straight through
          it's not really
its the same size and shape though
should i just get another muffler? or maybe
          post in the right forum?
