    Help with Toyota brakes

My friend has a car that's been sitting for a year. Now he wants to bring it back to life. It's an 89 Toyota Corolla, automatic, with a zillion miles on it.
We got it started, but when we tried to move it, we found out that one of the rear brakes was frozen. The wheel just won't turn at all; we even tore up the asphalt trying to force it to roll. It just dragged the tire along.
The car has drum brakes, and he left the parking brake on for the whole time. I tried to back off the adjuster to move the shoes away from the drum, but it won't budge. Other than a big hammer or breaker bar, does anyone have any ideas on how to break the drum loose?
    ~Mark.
