    Adding Power Door Locks

Wondering if anyone can give me a hand with this. I'm adding power door locks to a Canadian Protege SE (different than a US SE). I was able to add the motors and acutator to both front doors (no acutator on the drivers door) without any issues as the plugs for the wiring were already there.

However, when I went to install the power components to the rear doors, there was no wiring. There isn't any wiring between the door and the frame either, there are only black plugs covering each of the two holes. I'm assuming I need a harness along with the rubber hose but once I get the harness, where does it connect to and where is routed to?

Also, I can't locate the plug that the relay connects to. I know it should be somewhere above the clutch pedal where the other relays are connected but I just can't find it for the life of me. I'm guessing there should be one as the front doors were prewired for the locks but it just doesn't seem to be presenting itself. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

Wow. Thank you very much for the detailed pictures. This really helps me out.

So, it looks like I need to source a rear harness and it will plug in directly to the fuse box. I still need to find the relay plug but now that I know what the plug looks like and the wire colors, this will definitely help. Looks like the relay I was given was the wrong one as it only has four prongs so I will have to source another one.

Again, thanks very much for the detailed info.

im glad to hear thous pictures help peaple.

            one thing at rear doors

if you are putting power windows on your car you allso need that hardness from donor car.if not remember you need hardness where is more than 2 wires

if you have hardness where is 2 wire (green and red). its only for power locks
left power door locks and windows plugs, righ only power doorlocks plugs

down power door locks and windows hardness, up only power doorlocks hardness

              Imposter relay in disguise!!

Well, I have looked under the dash a number of times in search for the mysterious plug that plugs into the power lock relay and have had no luck. I did notice that there was a yellow relay on that bracket which had a plug attached that looked very similar to the one in the picture above. As a long shot, I unplugged it and plugged it into the power lock relay I acquired and magically the locks started working. It seems as though the yellow relay is really just a fake relay to hold the plug in place! Kind of wierd....

Anyway, ended up pulling the rear harness and the lock relay out of a 92 Escort at the junkyard. It was a perfect match. Only easy way to get it out was to cut the wires underneath the parking brake cover and pull it out from under the carpet on each side. Easiest way to run it from the drivers to the passenger side was to guide it under the seat with your hands until you get past the duct. Then, stick a coat hanger under the carpet starting underneath the parking brake cover and push it to the duct. Tape the end of the wire to the end of the coat hanger with electrical tape and pull the coat hanger back towards the parking brake. Repeat on passenger side and then use butt connectors to connect the wires back together under the parking brake cover. This method was way easier than pulling the seats out and pulling up the carpet.

The harness runs underneath the seatbelt cover between the front and rear seats and through the hole to the rear door (as per the picture above). You also need to have the rubber hose that connects the two holes together between the door and the center pillar.

Didn't realize that power/manual latches were the same except for the drivers side. Just need the motor and the little white connector that attaches the motor arm to the latch. Saves a bit of time rather than replacing the whole latch.

Anyway, everything works great. Thanks again for all the help.

The 4wd are worse than a DX cause the DX at least has the option to add those accessories without changing wiring. To make it have power accessories youll need the enitre interior harness for the conversion. I did mine already and i have funtional power windows and mirrors.

Thanks for the great pics. I located the plug for the lock relay, but could not seem to find the mount for it. Now I have to wait on my switch and actuator to arrive to complete the power locks.

i searched and found this thread i want to know if the automatic window switchs from a us pro are the same as the canadian window switchs. i am going to buy some canadian door panels and want to know if the us ones will fit the canadian door panels so i dont have to waste the $$ on canadian switchs and shipping.
