Club Protege's 2012 National Meet thread

We are nearly through the first month of 12' lets get organized & setup another national meet.

Please post your suggestions for regional areas: I.E. NE / SE / Central / NW / SW
we will vote upon a state from there out.
Keep in mind. large public space is needed- parks/ dealerships(willing to sponsor said meet)/ events /accommodation should all be relative to the area.

Let's go for the close to the center of the US, that way it will be about equal driving distance for people on the most outer states, like me. Is there even anything cool in Nebraska?

I've decided that my car is a girl, she's picky as hell, won't listen to me, always wants to fight me, and when i give her presents it's never good enough and she always wants more.

midwest shoould be good.. that way ryan actually has to finish the fe3 to drive back after he moves.. regardless it might be a good idea for the meet to have some cheap hotels/motels near by, also still have some "stuff" to do around the area other then the meet.. if im going to drive half way across the country for something ide hate to havae nothing but cornfields around

YEHA!! I like your thinking sir! I'm not sure I'd be able to do midwest, but east coast is do-able. If anyone is interested I could possibly see about incorporating it with EECMM. More mazdas are always welcome there.

The moment you say east coast or Florida, I'm instantly out. I don't want to have to drive that far. Not to mention the extra days, cost of fuel and hotels to get there. I think it should be fair for everyone.

according to wikipedia the avg center of US population is texas county MO.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mean_ce...tes_population i wonder if theres anything there

not much there is my guess and its slightly to the east of dead center US.. KC would prolly be the best option IMHO.. should have some stuff going on for ppl who want to make it a weekend thing.. option 2 would prolly be st. louis..

Most people know Redwood as home to the tallest trees on Earth. But the Parks also protect vast prairies, oak woodlands, wild rivers, and 40 miles of rugged coastline. People have lived in this verdant landscape since time immemorial. Together, the National Park Service and California State Parks are managing and restoring these lands for the inspiration, enjoyment, and education of all.

I'm going here anyway if things work out.

I think there's a lot of factors that can/should be considered. First, each location has its advantages and disadvantages. Somewhere toward the middle is fair in terms of driving distances for those of us on the extreme locations of the country. Obviously, it favors those in the middle. Picking one coast or the other puts a significant burden on those who are on the opposite coast regardless of how many of us are in Florida or in California or where ever. It also severely limits the chances of those people attending because they have to account for added costs, added time away from work or family and so on. Although it might seem more convenient to organize/pick something (like in Florida) because there MIGHT be more "regular" members of the forum from there, it can come across as a little insensitive or even selfish to the circumstances of the rest of the members.

While I'm on the subject, I think a venue might be important for us to look into. There might be some really big sponsors who might be interested in getting involved. Mazdspeed, corksport, Mazda (the mother company itself) all might be interested in attending and helping since they might get some great publicity. There might be some other after-market organizations that might play along like Summit Racing, JEG's, and on and on. The location itself might help us out such as maybe we could find a speedway (i.e. Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Indianapolis Speedway, Sebring, Watkins Glen, Laguna Seca) or another venue to help organize and host an event. Of course, there might be costs involved, but I think it's at least making a few phone calls or sending out a few emails...

Heck, there are lots of car shows that have show-n-shines that we could participate in if we knew where they are and when. We could start our own annual event?

We could try to find a location where the gathering is the central concept, but there's a theme park or annual celebration that people might be interested in attending so now you have two reasons to go as well as stop and see things along the way. Some of us could caravan most or all of the way together. It may be more fun and safer....

Am I thinking too big? Heck, this is America! Big thinkers! Big ideas! LOL.

                  Just thinking out loud...... ;D

And another thought..... since a national meet is probably the most challenging event to set up and to try to get a lot of people to attend, maybe we ought to try focusing on cutting it in half? Say like an eastern gathering and a western gathering? It may increase the amount of participation. It may reduce over all costs for members. While a national meet would be wickedly cool, I would be more than satisfied with being able to get together with half the country and then also look at pictures of those who went to the other event. It could even become a friendly competition or maybe the stepping stone toward a national meet every thrid year or every other year. It makes things sound more "do-able" in my mind.... just sayin.....

that sounds like a good idea, splitting it up to 2 meets.

I'd love to attend, although I fear very much crossing the border in a RHD. If it's less than 12 hours away, I might make it though.
