    Tuning suggestions

    Hey guys. I have a Ford escort GT 1.8 with a similar setup as lots on the forums, been doing some reading around and seeing what others use and do with their setups. I have a few questions I'm hoping someone can answer for me.

    My setup consists of
    VJ20 turbo
    GTX ecu
    BP26 cams
    Manual boost controller
    GTX side mount intercooler setup
    Bosch BOV to atmosphere
    330CC injectors
    Y code VAF
    Corksport downpipe
    4 wire tps
    Knock controller and sensor

    Now in theory I should be able to setup a decent amount of boost with the setup I have. Is there a fuel cut with the bp26 ecu that'll limit the boost I'm pushing?

    Right now I'm able to put out 8 pounds boost (after install of manual boost controller) but that's all she manages to get to with no increase upon adjusting the boost controller so I assumed there is a cut somewhere they someone should know about.

    What should I do in tuning aspects of the car? I've advanced the timing and tuned where I can, I still don't think she's set right, my budget isn't the best so I work with what I have at the moment

    Unfortunately I don't have a wide band O2 sensor and no stand alone yet.

    Where should I start on diagnosing this boost restriction or am I not setting something up right?

    Thanks in advance for your patience with me

    manual boost controllers are a joke. either buy an electronic one. or just get a standalone that has a setup built in to control boost.

      Thanks for the reply. Could that be what's causing my restriction?

        -> N/A BP
        -> advanced timing
        -> no wideband
        -> wants to increase boost

        enjoy your melted pistons

          How did I know you'd be here to share your pieces of info haha. It's not that I want to overload my boost just want to see where the restriction is from. Not everyone is made of coin dude but still want to enjoy the hobby

            yeah, trust me, I get that. the thing is, you've taken a motor with higher compression than the ECU expects, added timing, and now you're trying to increase boost without any way to monitor ****? I don't often agree with Ryan but for the most part MBCs are garbage, I've never had any luck with them on turbo BPs. sell that to some nerd and run stock boost / stock timing while you budget for a wideband and EBC. you can get a JAW for as little as $35 and piece together a setup yourself, or keep an eye out on Craigslist for a used $100 LC1, and old-school Greddy and HKS EBCs pop up on eBay all the time in the $100 range. yeah, this is more expensive than just ****ing around with stuff but if you want reliability and power you gotta pay to play.

              It's not advanced much just a bit. All I can monitor is my boost at the moment I do plan on getting all those things in the near future. This winter I'm tearing the motor and trans out and building it up from bottom to top

                Just my 2 cents. Engine management before anything is the best bang for anyone's buck.
