    3 General GTX questions

    Hey Everyone,

I have a 91 EGT and a GTX swap has been in the plans (and works) for a while. I wanted to ask the people that have done the swap a couple of essential questions before I order the motor.

    1. How difficult was it to re-wire a GT harness in order to run the GTX computer without the car being in limp mode ... if it wasn't too bad, was it easy to locate a knock sensor/control box; or did you somehow trick the computer into thinking there was one on there? Are there any other additional sensors on the GTX that are not found on the GT (aside from the knock sensor)

    2. Have you guys had any experience with JDM source in Calgary Canada (http://www.jdmsource.ca/) or with J-Spec auto sports from Quebec Canada (http://www.jspecauto.com/default.aspx)

    3. Did anyone use the AWD clutch in the FWD transmission with good results?

    Thanks a lot in advance,

    Alex

can't answer the other two questions... but the AWD clutch works great. You just need to swap over the whole assembly, flywheel and all.

      In response to #2....

I had cablemirc (forum admin) import me a knock control module b/c I want a plug and play swap (GTX ECU, harness and motor.) You might talk to him and see if he can find you one as well if you go that route.

Thanks for the answers guys - it looks like I will be going with jdmsource.

I am still not sure what to do about engine management. I could get the GTX ECU wired in, but I won't really know if it's running well unless I build/get a code reader for it since it does not support the CEL. I know some guys have just used their N/A ECU and used an AFC to richen the mixture .... I know elscotto has done this.

Anyone know what the best solution is here ... considering both price and performance?

performance wise you cant beat Haltech system. Cost alot but is the best IMO.

Cost wise, alot of people go the SAFC/Megasquirt route and seem to be pleased with it.

It all depends on what you want from the system.

Megasquirt is similar to a Haltech setup in that its a complete stand-alone.

              SAFC is a piggyback

Can tuning a stand-alone like the megasquirt be done off the dyno?
