    A/C fuse keeps blowing

    Hi,

I popped the hood the other day and realized that the a/c fuse in the engine bay was blown. i replaced the fuse with a new one and it worked fine for about 10 minutes then it blew again. My fuse cover does not have a sticker, is 20amp the proper rating? Also what could cause the fuse to go? Everything seems fine until the fuse goes...

    Thanks.

        Thanks MAN,

I think you are on to something there.

I noticed yesterday that when i tryed to put in a new fuse, even with the key out of ignition the fuse immediately blew - dead short some where maybe?

        Thanks again

            Same probem

This thread subject matches my problem but unfortunately there is not much listed in the way of solutions. I thought it was my lucky day when it only took replacing a 20amp fuse to get my A/C working again but after running for less than a minute it blew another fuse.

Symptoms: When A/C button is turned on the fan behind the radiator kicks on (fan close to engine) but the compressor never kicks on. I am assuming that the small fan in front of the radiator is connected to this 20 amp fuse that keeps blowing.

Any new information on this problem or diagnostic suggestions?

            Thanks!

Well the big thing is a valve is gone - i was thinking of selling as is but i figure i am gonna take off the head one day soon and assess the situation hopefully just have my head rebuilt or find a used one and she'll run good again.
also needs a flex pipe now too - sounds kind of crazy with the valve issue and the exhaust leak....but im not driving it right now anyway...

                    Wow, that sucks man.

I guess the a/c problem isn't very significant anymore.

                    Did you burn the valve?

                            Update on A/C fuse blowing

I understand this is mainly a tuners club but it does have some great information for those of us who want to keep our stock Protege's running good and that includes A/C for me. Showing up for work at an office job drenched in sweat is not cool.

Now that summer is heating up I decided to tinker with the problem. I thought the 20A fuse under the hood only controlled the A/C fan in front of the radiator however when the fuse blows the entire A/C system stops cooling.

I pulled the grille off and disconnected the A/C fan. Put in a new fuse and the system runs and cools w/o the A/C fan of course. I took it on about a 30 minute test drive with the A/C running and the car never showed any signs of overheating.

                            Some question for the club:

                            1. Any problems running without the A/C fan if the temp stays normal?

                            2. Where is the best place to get a new/used fan motor?

                            3. Are there other models (Escorts) that have the same fan motor?

                            Thanks!

                              Do you work at Penetrode?

The only thing the a/c condenser fan does is cool the condenser when the car is not moving. So when you're sitting in traffic, the a/c won't blow as cold.

The parts store would be a good place to start looking for a fan motor. If not there, a junkyard or someone on here.
