I like this PCMark benchmark software. A bunch of people have already posted their scores. The scores listed in this post can be found in the Related Threads.

For the PCMark04 noobs go to the PCMark04 website and download the free version. Then run the program, which runs a series of 10 tests.
PCMark04 is like a dyno for your computers overall performance. The higher the number the better.
EDIT: Almost forgot you'll also need to download Windows Media Encoder 9.
If you have a really bad graphics card this benchmark software will not give you a score. So if you've run all the 10 test on you machine and no score shows up. Click on the Options button in the main menu --> Click Details button --> Results Tab --> expand the System Test Suite tree and find the area where your system failed. (Might be time for an upgrade )
