So does this mean the only way twincam16 was able to run the b6 head on the Z5 bottom end was because he went turbo? no way he would have made it run properly with just swapping the head?

I speculate it would run but it probably would have trouble making the same power as the stock Z5. The upside is that whatever power it did make should be reliable.

The best situation (short of a BP) is possibly to swap the entire B6-ZE but more research is still needed to know for sure how easy a swap it realy is for those of us in countries that never got them stock.

      THREAD JACK....

Another option to do it right would be to rebuild your Z5 block with an overbore to match the B6 head (if properly sized pistons can be sourced of course). Cost could get out of hand quickly however and downtime may become an issue with this option. You would essentially be creating a "Z6" and you would probably only need the top end from the B6-ZE, some pistons/rings (maybe custom), gaskets, and machine work.

Provided there were no surprises with wiring, you may be able to use all the stock electronics with an S-AFC or some other method of tuning. For anyone worried about inspections, you could be able to pass something like this off as a 1.5L lol! Obviously, all this would be easily as labour intensive and expensive as a B6-ZE swap + rebuild but it may be a bolt in option if all else fails.

Come to think of it, has anyone ever compared B6-ZE/B6T pistons to Z5 pistons? Could the aftermarket B6 pistons from a Miata fit the Z5 rods allthewhile retaining the Z5 deck height? If so, since you'd be replacing pistons anyway, might as well play with compression and make the rebuild worthwhile.

Just some spontaneous thoughts...Hell, just get the whole B6-ZE. Anyway, back on topic.
