    I've had a brain fart and can't think...

    When aligning the timing...what marks do i use?

    ie, crank at TDC, exhaust cam still gets aligned with the E on the outer edge, i get this, but what about the intake cam? Do i alighn it at the 180 degree mark or two teeth in the clockwise direction past the 180?

    Currently i have it set at two teeth past the 180 degree. I'm sure this is right.
    BG Astina + GTR convertion + Microtech ECU + FMIC + 3" Exhaust x 21psi boost = 12.168sec to the power of 326whp

      aligned 2 teeth past 180° is correct. & adjust from there as deemed.

      any initial impressions??

        uummm, none as yet.




        Still have a couple of weeks to go yet before results are known.

              You forgot to carry the port and polish of head, 40thou over bore, wiseco pistons, shot peened GTR rods and balanced crank, rods and pistons...now you have permission to hehehe

                          I don't quiet understand how using an BP05 exhaust cam on the exhaust and a BP26 cam on the intake is better than using a specifically designed BP26 cam on the exhaust and the same BP26 cam flipped on the intake. Wouldn't that combo produce the least overlap possible?

                            your thinking is off. you must incorporate lift & duration into the scene as well.

                            You can print off cam chart circles & map it out yourself if you wish.
                            mazda had tuned the overlap for boost accordingly. reducing it further really does not hold more benifits.
