Lime Rock Park-First Event of the 2006 Season

Lime Rock Park racetrack is located in Lakeville, CT about 20 miles north of Kent Falls state park for those of you who have attended our fun-filled events there. Situated in the rural Berkshire Hills region of northwestern CT, this 1.53 mile (2.462 km) track will be hosting its first event of the 2006 season, the Rolex GT Series Challenge, on Memorial Day weekend from Friday, May,26th through Monday, May 29th. Your admission ticket also grants you paddock privileges. The track is located at 497 Lime Rock Road, Lakeville, CT and the telephone no. is 1-800-RACE-LRP. Rolex GT Series Challenge
The following material is taken from their website. This series features the Rolex Sports Car Series GT class that includes top-end production or series-produced sports and GT models such as the Porsche GT3 Cup, BMW M3, Corvette Z06, Pontiac GTO, Mazda RX-8, Maseati Trofeo and Ferrari 360 GT. The GT class race will last for three hours.

The Rolex series will also include the Grand-Am cup series with its two highly competitive classes of race cars: Grand Sport and Street Tuner. Cars in this series will include popular sports and muscle cars such as the BMW M3, Cadillac CTS-V, Ford Mustang, Dodge SRT4 and Porshe 996 as well as race-bred imports such as the Mazda RX-8, Acura RSX-S, Audi A4 and the Mini Cooper S. The Grand Am cup series will be run in two 1/2 hour events; one for Grand Sport and one for Street Tuner.

Also scheduled is the third season running of the Formula BMW USA series. Drivers from North, Central and South America will compete in state-of-the-art 140 MPH Formula BMW FB2s in two 30-minute standing-start races with the grid determined by a prior qualifying session. In 2004, Lime Rock hosted the first ever Formula BMW USA races where the top drivers qualified at an average speed of 106 MPH and both races were decided by less than half a second.

Of particular interest to members of this Forum is the SCCA Pro Racing Mazda MX-5 Cup race featuring a field of identical 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miatas. Mechanically, all MX-5 Cup cars will remain essentially stock, as delivered from the dealer, with only bolt-on modifications to the intake and exhaust systems allowed. While the stock MX-5 Miata produces 170 HP, it's expected that an MX-5 Cup car will produce in excess of 200 HP.

Finally, The American GT Challenge event returns to Lime Rock including such cars as Ford Mustangs, Chevrolet Corvettes and Camaros and Oldsmobile Culasses all powered by V8 or V6 engines. This series will also include cars from the now defunct Trans Am series with the rules designed to place all the cars on a relatively equal footing. This series will compete in two 30-minute races.

On Sundays, no racing is allowed to take place at Lime Rock so Hemmings will be sponsoring a Sports and Exotic Car show.

Details of future Lime Rock events will be posted later in the season. This thread will be stickied until the event is held.

Using Linux for anything serious besides server or software dev is like using a tin can and a string for telecommunications.
