    GTX/GTR steering wheels?

Is it hard or expensive to get one? I'm bored of my stock one.

If it doesn't have to be either of those wheels, look on Ebay for a wheel, they have nice quality wheels, some come with the adaptor hub, some don't. You need an adaptor hub for either a late 80's RX-7 or early 90's miata, at least that's what I purchased for mine and it fit perfectly.

    Have fun.

The Escort steering column is different than the Protege/323 one. You have to buy a Grant adapter for 5 bolt steering wheels(Escorts don't get a Momo adapter, you need to drill 6 holes in a Grant one).

i don't know if it's true or not, but if you are going to put it on a LX then i thnk you might need to get a momo spacer. i talked to dave, back when he had his protege, and he said that he had a rubing issue with his and was looking into getting different wiper and blinker stalks from a dx or some. something about how they would sit back some????? not sure on this. maybe if we can get dave's or anybody elses input on this??............

You are not limited to the gtx/gtr. All Mazda steering wheels are interchangeable. There are pretty decent rx-7 wheels or you can awlays grab a 3rd gen Protege piece that is much better than your current one.

the turn signal/lights stalk sits pretty close to the wheel, at first i was gonna space it out some, but I've gotten used to it so i'm leaving it the way it is

Well, it's for my escort. I didn't know it was different though, so the GTX wheel won't fit? I definately don't want a ricey looking wheel though, and I don't want to spend the money to get a new momo or something.

The GTX one is a Momo, if you find a wheel all you would need is a hub adapter for the escort with the six hole mounting pattern for the wheel.

Hah-- I just installed mine tonight that I bought off of here many months ago... here is the write-up I just posted on MX-3.com:

Tonight we installed a MOMO steering wheel that I purchased from a guy on wihandyman.com many months ago. I was told it was a stock steering wheel on the JDM 323 GTR's but I am not positive. It came with the MOMO hub extension. I purchased the horn button off of eBay.

Installation went smoothly except that the bezel around the steering column has to be installed BEFORE the new hub. There is a lip on the bezel that prevents it from being installed once the hub is on.

We had to pull the steering wheel again in order to re-install the steering column bezel.

I am pretty sure I have to get a longer hub extention pretty soon. The wheel is pretty much the same size as the stock one, but the center of the wheel doesnt curve outwards like the stock one. So, its hard to not hit the bright lights as I am turning. I have to get used to it for now, or just ride with my brights on (they arent that bright!).

                    Anyway, here are some pics:

Pilot and Grant make some non-offensive 5 bolt steering wheels. I've been pretty satisfied with the Pilot one I've had for the past year. It was only $50 on ebay.
